My Ex-Husband Became My Boss | He Left Me 5 Years Ago, Now He Wants Me Back

Chapter 15

Ten years after Alexander first walked into Emma’s office, they returned to the same conference room.

The company had grown.

The furniture had changed.

The people had changed.

But Emma remembered everything.

The first day.

The shock.

The anger.

The fear.

Alexander stood beside her.

“You’re quiet.”

“I’m remembering.”

“What?”

“The first time you walked into this room.”

He smiled.

“You wanted to quit.”

“I did.”

“And you stayed.”

“Yes.”

“Why?”

Emma looked at him.

“Because I wanted to prove I could work beside you without becoming part of your shadow.”

“You did.”

“Then I realized I didn’t want to be beside you.”

He waited.

“I wanted to build something with you.”

He smiled.

They had spent ten years building it.

A company.

A foundation.

A family.

A life.

Sophie now had two children.

Emma and Alexander had become their favorite aunt and uncle.

Their home was always full on Sundays.

There was noise.

Laughter.

Arguments.

Life.

Exactly what Emma had wanted years ago.

The conference room doors opened.

Their employees entered.

Emma smiled.

The company was announcing another major expansion.

But she wasn’t interested in numbers anymore.

She looked at Alexander.

“Remember our first project?”

“Yes.”

“The hotel acquisition.”

“Yes.”

“You made me take it.”

“I needed you.”

She laughed.

“You always say that.”

“Because it’s true.”

“And now?”

He squeezed her hand.

“Now I choose you.”

She smiled.

The meeting began.

Afterward, they stood alone in the hallway.

Alexander looked at her wedding ring.

“The second one.”

Emma laughed.

“Which one?”

“The one you chose.”

She looked at it.

“I like this one better.”

“Why?”

“It means something.”

“What?”

“It means I stayed because I wanted to.”

He smiled.

They walked toward the elevator.

When the doors opened, Emma suddenly remembered something.

“Wait.”

“What?”

She turned toward him.

“You never asked me why I agreed to work for you again.”

He smiled.

“I know why.”

“Why?”

“Because you wanted answers.”

She shook her head.

“No.”

He waited.

“Because I wanted to see if the man I loved still existed.”

Alexander looked at her.

“And?”

“He did.”

He kissed her.

The elevator doors closed.

For years, Emma had believed her ex-husband leaving was the greatest tragedy of her life.

Then she learned he had left to protect her.

She learned their divorce had been manipulated.

She discovered a fortune hidden by her father.

She found a sister she never knew.

She uncovered a criminal network that had shaped both families.

And eventually, she discovered the truth about herself.

She had survived without Alexander.

She had built a career without him.

She had become stronger without him.

But when he came back, she didn’t choose him because she needed saving.

She chose him because she no longer needed anyone to save her.

That was why their second marriage worked.

The first time, they had been brought together by circumstances.

The second time, they chose each other freely.

And that made all the difference.

Five years after he first became her boss, Alexander had become something else entirely.

Not her boss.

Not her ex-husband.

Not her protector.

Her partner.

Her best friend.

Her home.

And Emma finally understood the lesson she had been too heartbroken to see five years earlier.

Sometimes someone leaves your life because they don’t love you.

Sometimes they leave because they’re afraid.

And sometimes, when they come back, the real question isn’t whether you still love them.

It’s whether they have become the person you can trust again.

Alexander had.

Emma had too.

So when he took her hand and asked quietly,

“Would you choose me again?”

She smiled.

“I already did.”
