My Ex-Husband Became My Boss | He Left Me 5 Years Ago, Now He Wants Me Back
Chapter 14
Five years passed.
The company grew.
The foundation expanded.
Sophie became a successful attorney.
Emma became president of the family group.
Alexander remained CEO.
Their marriage became stronger with every year.
Not perfect.
Real.
There were arguments.
Busy weeks.
Different opinions.
But there were no disappearances.
No secret agreements.
No manipulated decisions.
One evening, Emma returned home late.
Alexander was waiting in the kitchen.
“You’re late.”
“So are you.”
He smiled.
“Fair.”
She dropped her bag.
“What are we eating?”
“Your favorite.”
She smiled.
“You made pasta?”
“Yes.”
She tasted it.
“This is actually good.”
He looked offended.
“Actually?”
She laughed.
They ate together.
Then Alexander became quiet.
“What?”
“I’ve been thinking.”
“Dangerous.”
“I want to sell the house.”
Emma froze.
“What?”
“The old house.”
She understood.
Their first home.
The place where he had left her.
“I don’t want the past living in our lives.”
Emma nodded.
“Sell it.”
He took her hand.
“Are you okay?”
“Yes.”
She looked at him.
“That house isn’t our marriage.”
“No.”
“This is.”
He smiled.
The next morning, they sold it.
They donated the money to the foundation.
The place that had once represented heartbreak became support for other families.
Emma felt lighter.
Then she received a letter.
From the original divorce lawyer.
He had been convicted.
Before entering prison, he had written her one final message.
I was paid to separate you.
I regret it.
Emma folded the letter.
She didn’t feel anger.
Just closure.
That evening, she and Alexander sat on the balcony.
“You ever wonder what would have happened if we never found each other again?”
She asked.
“Yes.”
“What do you think?”
“I think I would have regretted it every day.”
She smiled.
“I think I would have been fine.”
He laughed.
“Really?”
“Eventually.”
“That sounds like you.”
She leaned against him.
“But I’m glad I didn’t have to find out.”
He kissed her forehead.
“So am I.”
The city lights reflected across the windows.
Emma looked at her husband.
“Are we finally normal?”
Alexander smiled.
“No.”
“Good.”
“I don’t think normal suits us.”
She laughed.
“Probably not.”
They stayed there until midnight.
And for once, there was no secret waiting.
No threat.
No hidden file.
No one trying to control them.
Just two people who had been married twice.
Once because circumstances forced them together.
And once because they freely chose each other.
