My Ex-Husband Became My Boss | He Left Me 5 Years Ago, Now He Wants Me Back
Chapter 10
Emma showed Alexander the letter.
He read it silently.
“I never saw this.”
“Why didn’t you tell me about the agreement?”
“I was ashamed.”
“Of what?”
“That our marriage began with fear.”
“But it also began with love.”
“Yes.”
She sat beside him.
“Why did you leave without explaining?”
“Because I thought the truth would put you in more danger.”
“And you thought making me hate you would protect me.”
“Yes.”
“It didn’t.”
“I know.”
Emma looked at him.
“You should have trusted me.”
“I should have.”
She smiled.
“Then learn.”
He looked at her.
“I am.”
Their relationship deepened.
But now it was different.
They went to counseling.
They talked about the divorce.
The loneliness.
The anger.
The years apart.
Alexander admitted he had spent five years believing Emma would never forgive him.
Emma admitted she had spent five years pretending she didn’t care.
The honesty helped.
Slowly, they rebuilt trust.
Then tragedy struck.
Sophie was attacked outside her apartment.
She survived.
But someone had left a message.
YOU SHOULD HAVE STAYED OUT OF FAMILY BUSINESS.
Emma immediately understood.
The network wasn’t completely gone.
Someone had survived.
Daniel traced the threat.
A company in Europe.
Owned by a man named Vincent Cole.
Vincent had been Edward’s partner.
He had escaped before the arrests.
Now he wanted revenge.
Alexander called a security meeting.
Emma interrupted.
“I don’t want security.”
He looked at her.
“Why?”
“I want evidence.”
“You’re not going near him.”
“That’s not your decision.”
He stopped.
Emma smiled.
“You promised not to control me.”
“You’re right.”
They worked together.
They discovered Vincent had been using offshore accounts to move the remaining assets.
He planned to recover the hidden technology.
But he needed Emma’s signature.
They created a trap.
Emma would appear to cooperate.
She would sign a controlled document.
Vincent would expose himself.
It worked.
They met in a private conference room.
Vincent arrived.
He smiled.
“You look like your father.”
Emma stayed calm.
“He respected you.”
Vincent laughed.
“Your father hated me.”
“Yes.”
“Good.”
She placed the document on the table.
“Sign the transfer.”
Vincent sat.
“After you.”
Emma signed.
He relaxed.
Then Alexander entered.
Vincent looked shocked.
“You.”
Alexander smiled.
“Hello.”
The doors opened.
Federal agents entered.
Vincent tried to reach for a weapon.
Security stopped him.
He was arrested.
The final piece of the network collapsed.
Emma walked outside.
Alexander followed.
“You were incredible.”
“I know.”
He laughed.
“Confident.”
“I learned from you.”
They stood beneath the evening sky.
Emma looked at him.
“It’s really over.”
“Yes.”
“No more secrets?”
“No more.”
“No more people deciding our lives?”
“No.”
She smiled.
“Then I have one question.”
“What?”
“Would you marry me again?”
Alexander froze.
“You’re asking me?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because this time, I want to.”
His eyes filled with tears.
“Yes.”
Emma smiled.
“But not yet.”
He laughed.
“Of course.”
