“A Don Doesn’t Date Fat Girls,” She Spat. He Locked The Door “Watch Me Make You My Wife”
Chapter 5
The intruder never made it inside.
Security caught him near the west wall.
He carried a burner phone, two forged IDs, and a photograph of Bianca.
The photograph had been taken outside her apartment.
Someone had been watching her for weeks.
Matteo interrogated the man personally.
Bianca heard only fragments from the hallway.
Names.
Payments.
Locations.
Then silence.
When Matteo returned, his expression was harder than before.
“Who?”
“Victor Russo.”
She nodded slowly.
“So Russo really wants me.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
Matteo walked to the window.
“We found something in your father’s records.”
“What?”
“A missing account.”
“How much?”
“Twenty-two million dollars.”
Bianca stared.
“What?”
“Your father moved it before he died.”
“To where?”
“We don’t know.”
“So that’s why they want me?”
“Maybe.”
“Because they think I know.”
“Yes.”
Bianca sat down.
“I don’t.”
“I believe you.”
That surprised her.
“You do?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because if you knew where the money was, you wouldn’t still be living in a small apartment and buying discounted coffee.”
She laughed weakly.
“Fair.”
He looked at her.
“You’ve been working three jobs.”
Her smile disappeared.
“How do you know that?”
“I investigate people who matter.”
“Do I matter?”
Matteo answered immediately.
“Yes.”
The room became quiet.
Bianca looked away.
“Don’t say things like that.”
“Why?”
“Because I don’t know if you mean them.”
“I do.”
She looked back.
Matteo continued.
“You don’t need my protection because you’re helpless.”
“Then why?”
“Because you’re strong enough to walk into danger without realizing how much you have to lose.”
She didn’t know what to say.
That evening, Matteo hosted a dinner with several senior members of the De Luca organization.
Bianca was invited.
She almost refused.
But then she realized something.
She needed to know who could be trusted.
At the table, a silver-haired man named Alessandro De Luca kept staring at her.
Finally, he laughed.
“You’re the girl everyone is talking about.”
Bianca looked at him.
“I hope they’re saying something interesting.”
He smiled.
“You’re brave.”
“Is that a compliment?”
“Not from me.”
One of the other men chuckled.
Alessandro glanced at Matteo.
“A Don doesn’t date women like her.”
The table went silent.
Bianca’s face hardened.
She opened her mouth.
But Matteo spoke first.
“Finish that sentence.”
Alessandro leaned back.
“I said—”
“I heard you.”
Matteo’s voice was calm.
Too calm.
“She is not a topic for your entertainment.”
Alessandro smirked.
“You’re defending her?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
Matteo looked around the table.
“Because unlike most people here, Bianca has enough courage to tell the truth.”
Then he looked at Bianca.
“And because I intend to keep her.”
Bianca stared.
Alessandro laughed.
“Keep her?”
Matteo didn’t blink.
“Watch me.”
Bianca’s heart jumped.
She didn’t know whether to be angry or flattered.
Maybe both.
Then Matteo stood.
“Dinner is over.”
Everyone immediately rose.
Bianca followed him into the hall.
“You shouldn’t have said that.”
“I meant it.”
“You made it sound like I belonged to you.”
Matteo stopped.
“You don’t.”
She waited.
“Never,” he said. “You belong to yourself.”
Her anger softened.
“Then what did you mean?”
He looked directly into her eyes.
“I meant I want the chance to prove that the man who judges you by your body isn’t the man you should listen to.”
Bianca swallowed.
“And how exactly do you plan to prove that?”
Matteo’s answer came quietly.
“By choosing you where everyone can see.”
