She Took a Babysitting Job at a Billionaire’s Mansion — Then She Fell for the Son Who Thought She Didn’t Belong There

Chapter 1

Emma Carter arrived in Los Angeles with two suitcases, a scholarship, and exactly one hundred and eighty-three dollars in her bank account.

She had grown up in a small town several hours away, where everyone knew her mother, everyone knew her dreams, and no one had enough money to help make them happen.

Emma had earned her place at Westbridge University through a full academic scholarship.

But tuition wasn’t everything.

There was rent.

Food.

Books.

Transportation.

That was why she accepted a live-out childcare position with one of the city’s wealthiest families.

The Harpers lived behind iron gates on a quiet hill overlooking Los Angeles.

Their house looked less like a home and more like a private hotel.

Emma arrived at five in the afternoon.

A woman in an elegant cream dress opened the door.

“Emma?”

“Yes, Mrs. Harper.”

“I’m Victoria. Please, call me Victoria.”

She smiled warmly.

“Our youngest, Oliver, is six. He’s very energetic.”

Emma laughed softly.

“I can handle energetic.”

Victoria stepped aside.

A little boy came running through the hallway.

“You’re the new nanny!”

“Babysitter,” Emma corrected gently.

He pointed upstairs.

“Come on! I have to show you my dinosaur collection.”

Emma smiled.

She hadn’t taken three steps before someone spoke from the staircase.

“Mom, did you seriously hire another babysitter?”

Emma looked up.

The man standing there was tall, dark-haired, and wearing the effortless confidence of someone who had never worried about whether he belonged in a room.

She knew that face.

Her heart dropped.

Ethan Harper.

The most popular guy at Westbridge.

Rich.

Beautiful.

Reckless.

And, according to campus gossip, almost impossible to date for more than a month.

He looked at Emma.

Recognition flashed across his face.

“You’re from Westbridge.”

She nodded.

“Yes.”

He frowned.

“You’re the scholarship student.”

Emma’s expression hardened.

“And you’re the guy who never attends morning lectures.”

Oliver tugged her hand.

“Come on.”

Emma followed the little boy upstairs.

Behind her, Ethan watched.

For the first time, the famous Ethan Harper had no idea what to say.
