Was Ordered to Take My Boss Home. At Her Family’s Doorstep—She Introduced Me as Her Boyfriend
Chapter 3
Dinner was uncomfortable.
Her father, Richard Sterling, sat at the head of the table.
He was the kind of man who could make a room quiet simply by looking around.
“So, Daniel,” he said.
“Yes, sir?”
“What do you do?”
“I’m a driver.”
Her brother laughed.
Victoria looked at me.
I realized immediately.
She hadn’t told them anything about me.
“I drive for Victoria,” I clarified.
Richard raised an eyebrow.
“Her driver?”
“Yes.”
“Interesting choice for a boyfriend.”
Victoria’s expression hardened.
“Father.”
“What?”
“You invited us to dinner.”
“I asked a question.”
I looked down at my plate.
Then Richard asked:
“How long have you two been together?”
Victoria answered immediately.
“Six months.”
I nearly choked.
Six months?
She glanced at me.
“Right?”
I nodded.
“Six months.”
Her brother laughed.
“You’ve been dating your employee for six months and nobody knew?”
Victoria shrugged.
“We kept it private.”
Richard didn’t look convinced.
Then the front door opened.
A man in an expensive suit entered.
Victoria’s face fell.
Her father smiled.
“Ah. Perfect timing.”
The newcomer approached the table.
“Mr. Sterling.”
Richard gestured toward him.
“Daniel, meet Alexander Grant.”
Alexander looked at Victoria.
“Victoria.”
She didn’t answer.
Her father smiled.
“I believe you two already know each other.”
Victoria’s grip tightened around my hand.
Alexander looked at me.
“And this is?”
Victoria answered.
“My boyfriend.”
Alexander’s smile disappeared.
For the first time that evening, I realized this wasn’t just a family dinner.
I was standing in the middle of a battle.
