Was Ordered to Take My Boss Home. At Her Family’s Doorstep—She Introduced Me as Her Boyfriend

Chapter 2

Victoria directed me toward an enormous estate outside the city.
I stared through the windshield.
“You live here?”
“My parents do.”
“That’s… impressive.”
“They like making an impression.”
We pulled up.
Before Victoria could get out, she grabbed my arm.
“Wait.”
I turned.
“What?”
“There’s something you need to know.”
She looked nervous.
I’d never seen her nervous before.
“My family expects me to bring someone.”
“Someone?”
“My boyfriend.”
I stared at her.
“I’m sorry?”
She took a breath.
“I told them I was seeing someone.”
“Why?”
“Because my father keeps trying to arrange meetings between me and the sons of his business partners.”
“And you invented a boyfriend?”
“Yes.”
“Who?”
She looked directly at me.
“You.”
I laughed.
She didn’t.
“You can’t be serious.”
“I am.”
“Victoria, I’m your employee.”
“I know.”
“This is insane.”
“I know.”
“And what exactly do you want me to do?”
She opened the car door.
“Just act like you care about me.”
I stared after her.
Then she turned around.
“Please.”
That single word changed everything.
I got out.
We walked toward the house.
The front doors opened before we reached them.
An older woman smiled.
“Victoria!”
Then she looked at me.
Her smile disappeared.
“Who’s this?”
Victoria slipped her arm through mine.
“This is Daniel.”
Her mother looked at our linked arms.
“Daniel who?”
Victoria smiled.
“My boyfriend.”
Silence.
Behind her mother, several family members appeared.
Her father slowly lowered his glass.
Her older brother stared at me.
And someone whispered:
“She actually brought him.”
I swallowed.
Victoria squeezed my arm.
“Don’t worry.”
Then she whispered:
“Whatever happens, don’t leave me alone.”
