Was Ordered to Take My Boss Home. At Her Family’s Doorstep—She Introduced Me as Her Boyfriend

Chapter 6

That afternoon, Richard called me into his office.
“Daniel, I have a proposition.”
I sat down.
“I want you to become Victoria’s executive assistant.”
I blinked.
“I’m a driver.”
“You’re observant.”
“I don’t have the qualifications.”
“You’ve just demonstrated that you do.”
I hesitated.
“Why?”
“Because Victoria trusts you.”
He leaned forward.
“And because I need someone around her who isn’t afraid to tell her when she’s wrong.”
I smiled.
“She won’t like that.”
“Good.”
I accepted.
When I told Victoria, she stared at me.
“My father offered you a promotion?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“I think he likes me.”
She laughed.
“My father doesn’t like anyone.”
“Apparently I’m special.”
She shook her head.
Then her expression softened.
“Congratulations.”
“Thanks.”
She looked at me.
“Does this mean you’re quitting as my driver?”
“Probably.”
“That’s unfortunate.”
“Why?”
She smiled.
“I liked having you around.”
I smiled back.
“So did I.”
Neither of us spoke for a moment.
Something had changed.
Neither of us knew exactly what.
