Was Ordered to Take My Boss Home. At Her Family’s Doorstep—She Introduced Me as Her Boyfriend

Chapter 11

The investigation eventually exposed the entire network.
Eleanor was removed from the company.
Alexander cooperated with investigators in exchange for leniency.
Richard publicly admitted that the company had failed to protect employees who raised concerns.
And my father’s name was cleared.
But one question remained.
Why had Richard never investigated properly?
The answer was painful.
He had believed the people closest to him.
He had trusted his sister.
He had trusted his executives.
And he had trusted numbers more than people.
He apologized to me.
“I can’t change what happened to your father.”
“No.”
“But I can make sure it never happens again.”
I nodded.
That was enough.
Victoria stood beside me.
Her hand slipped into mine.
This time, nobody was pretending.

Chapter 12

One year later, Victoria and I returned to the same estate.
Her mother opened the door.
“You’re early.”
Victoria smiled.
“We have news.”
Her father appeared behind her.
“What happened?”
Victoria held up an envelope.
“We’re getting married.”
Richard stared.
Then he looked at me.
“Are you sure?”
I smiled.
“I’ve survived your family for a year.”
He laughed.
“Fair enough.”
Victoria leaned toward me.
“See? He’s getting better.”
Her mother hugged her.
The house filled with laughter.
I looked around.
A year earlier, I’d stood at that same doorway as a fake boyfriend.
Now I was standing there as family.
Victoria squeezed my hand.
“Do you remember what I told you that night?”
“What?”
“Whatever happens, don’t leave me alone.”
I smiled.
“I didn’t.”
“And you won’t?”
“Never.”
She smiled.
For the first time, neither of us needed an excuse to stand beside the other.
