They Humiliated the Poor Cleaner… Until the CEO Walked In

Chapter 8

Michael Bennett was living under another name.

They found him in a small mountain house surrounded by pine trees.

When Clara saw him through the window, she couldn’t breathe.

Twelve years disappeared in a second.

Her father opened the door.

He looked older.

Thinner.

His hair was gray.

But it was him.

Clara ran to him.

He caught her in his arms.

“I’m sorry.”

She cried against his chest.

“I thought you were dead.”

“I wanted you to think that.”

Ethan stepped back, giving them privacy.

After a long embrace, Michael looked at him.

“Richard’s son.”

“Ethan Cole.”

Michael nodded.

“I knew you’d come eventually.”

They sat together at the kitchen table.

Michael told them the truth.

Orion had been designed to move money through shell companies to conceal bribery and illegal acquisitions.

Richard discovered it.

Michael tried to help.

Victor Hale was the one controlling the network.

But Victor wasn’t alone.

He had people inside governments, banks, and corporations.

“When Richard tried to expose them,” Michael said, “they killed him.”

Ethan froze.

“My father wasn’t killed naturally?”

“No.”

Ethan looked down.

Michael continued.

“They poisoned him slowly.”

Clara’s eyes filled.

“Why did you disappear?”

“Because they threatened your life.”

He looked at Clara.

“I made a deal.”

“What deal?”

“I gave them information they wanted.”

“Then they let you live?”

“No.”

Michael smiled sadly.

“I escaped.”

He reached into a cabinet.

Removed a small metal box.

Inside was a stack of documents.

“The evidence that could destroy Victor.”

Ethan took the files.

There were payment records.

Secret recordings.

Photographs.

Everything.

Clara looked through them.

Then stopped.

One document carried Ethan’s name.

She looked at him.

“This says your father transferred money to you.”

Ethan stared.

“I never saw this.”

Michael nodded.

“It was forged.”

“Why?”

“Because Victor planned to blame you too.”

Ethan’s jaw tightened.

Michael looked between them.

“You’re both in danger.”

Clara asked,

“Why did Victor target me?”

“Because you were the last person who could connect the past to the present.”

She swallowed.

“Does he know where you are?”

Michael hesitated.

“He may.”

Then a car engine sounded outside.

Everyone froze.

Michael whispered,

“They found us.”

Ethan stood.

“How many?”

“Don’t know.”

A window shattered.

Clara screamed.

Ethan pulled her down.

Gunfire erupted.

Michael grabbed the metal box.

“We have to move.”

They fled through a back exit.

But as they reached the woods, a black SUV blocked the road.

Victor Hale stepped out.

He wasn’t holding a weapon.

He didn’t need one.

He smiled.

“Mr. Bennett.”

Then he looked at Ethan.

“And the cleaner.”

His smile widened.

“I’ve been waiting twelve years for this.”
