They Humiliated the Poor Cleaner… Until the CEO Walked In
Chapter 10
The final plan was simple.
Get the evidence to a federal judge.
Release copies to three major newspapers.
And force Victor into the open.
But the plan had one weakness.
Victor controlled the company.
He could destroy digital records.
So Ethan decided to use the annual shareholder meeting.
Every major investor would be there.
Every camera would be broadcasting.
Victor would have nowhere to hide.
They returned to Halston headquarters.
The board meeting began at ten.
Victor stood at the podium.
“Ladies and gentlemen, today’s meeting is about stability.”
The doors opened.
Ethan walked in.
Clara beside him.
Michael behind them.
The room erupted.
Victor froze.
Several shareholders stood.
A reporter shouted,
“Is that Michael Bennett?”
Victor’s face went pale.
Ethan walked to the center.
“You’ve been lying for twelve years.”
Victor smiled.
“You have no proof.”
Ethan held up the evidence box.
“I do.”
Victor laughed.
“Those documents are fabricated.”
Michael stepped forward.
“I wrote them.”
The room went silent.
Victor stared at him.
“You should be dead.”
Michael answered calmly.
“I almost was.”
Ethan placed a recorder on the table.
Victor recognized the device.
His expression changed.
The recording began.
Victor’s voice.
Giving instructions.
Discussing Michael.
Discussing Richard’s death.
Discussing the forged evidence against Ethan.
The shareholders erupted.
Victor reached for his phone.
Nothing.
Federal agents entered the room.
Victor backed away.
“You can’t arrest me.”
One agent showed the warrant.
“You’d be surprised.”
Victor looked at Clara.
“This is your fault.”
She met his eyes.
“No.”
She pointed to Michael.
“This is the truth.”
Victor was taken away.
The room remained silent.
Then someone began to applaud.
One person.
Then another.
Soon, the entire room was clapping.
Ethan looked at Clara.
She smiled.
But the biggest surprise came moments later.
An investigator approached Ethan.
“We discovered another account.”
“What account?”
“One held twelve years ago.”
He handed Ethan a file.
The account had been opened under Clara’s name.
She frowned.
“I never opened anything.”
The investigator pointed to the signature.
Ethan looked closely.
Then his face changed.
“Clara.”
“What?”
“This isn’t your signature.”
“Then whose is it?”
Ethan stared at the page.
He knew that handwriting.
His father’s.
The account had been created before Richard died.
And its balance was enormous.
Nearly two hundred million dollars.
Money that had never been recovered.
Clara looked at Ethan.
“Where did that money come from?”
He had no answer.
And somewhere inside the company archives…
there was one final secret left to uncover.
