The Mafia Boss Caught His Secretary Packing—Then Found the Threat Hidden Under Her Desk

Chapter 9

Marco and Elena arrived at the house with a security team.

The doors were open.

The lights were off.

Inside, everything looked untouched.

Except one photograph.

A family portrait had been removed from the wall.

Behind it was a hidden safe.

Marco opened it.

Inside was a letter.

His mother’s handwriting.

Marco, if you’re reading this, I failed to tell you the truth.

He read silently.

His mother admitted that Vincent had threatened the family years earlier.

She had helped fake his death.

Not because she wanted to.

Because she was afraid.

The family had divided itself to survive.

Marco had been kept away from the truth.

His brother had been sent overseas.

Vincent continued operating from the shadows.

Then came the final confession.

He believes you took everything from him.

Marco stared at the letter.

“What did I take?”

Elena looked over his shoulder.

The answer was written beneath.

Your father chose you to lead. Vincent never forgave him.

Marco had thought Vincent wanted money.

He wanted something else.

Recognition.

Power.

His father’s approval.

Marco had been the chosen son.

That was the real reason.

The financial crimes were only the method.

Elena touched his arm.

“It’s not your fault.”

Marco shook his head.

“No.”

“You didn’t choose this.”

“My father did.”

“That’s different.”

Marco folded the letter.

“Where is my mother?”

A phone rang.

The sound came from upstairs.

They found her in a locked room.

Alive.

Shaken.

She had been forced to write the letter.

She told them Vincent had taken her.

But before leaving, he’d said one thing.

“He’s going to the old theater.”

Marco knew the location.

A place his family had owned for decades.

They went there immediately.

The theater was empty.

On stage was a single chair.

Beside it was another envelope.

Inside was a final demand.

Come alone.

Marco walked forward.

Elena grabbed his arm.

“Don’t.”

He looked at her.

“I have to.”

“No.”

She shook her head.

“You don’t fight this alone.”

Marco smiled.

“That’s why I love you.”

She froze.

“What?”

He stepped closer.

“I love you.”

Elena’s eyes filled.

“Then don’t go alone.”

He kissed her forehead.

“I’ll come back.”

They entered together.

Vincent appeared on the balcony.

Older.

Silver-haired.

Calm.

He smiled.

“So this is the woman.”

Marco stared.

“Let her go.”

Vincent laughed.

“You still think this is about her.”

“Then what?”

“It’s about you.”

Vincent explained everything.

He believed Marco had stolen his birthright.

He had spent years rebuilding the empire behind the scenes.

The money transfers.

The shell companies.

The fake deaths.

Everything was preparation.

Now he wanted Marco to surrender leadership.

Marco refused.

Vincent pointed toward Elena.

“Then she dies.”

Marco’s expression changed.

Carlo stepped forward.

But Carlo hesitated.

He looked at Marco.

Then Elena.

Something in his face had changed.

“Vincent,” Carlo said.

“Enough.”

Vincent turned.

“What?”

Carlo lowered his weapon.

“You promised me the company.”

“And?”

“You never intended to give it.”

Vincent smiled.

“You’re disposable.”

Carlo realized the truth.

He had been used too.

He turned against Vincent.

The room exploded into chaos.

Marco grabbed Elena and pulled her behind cover.

Security rushed in.

Carlo confronted Vincent.

Vincent escaped through a side exit.

Marco chased him.

But before he disappeared, Vincent shouted:

“You’ll never have what I lost!”

Marco stopped.

He realized then.

Vincent didn’t want money.

He wanted his brother to suffer.

And the only way to win was to refuse to become him.
