Chapter 8
Then came rowing.
The harbor was crowded.
Everyone had gathered near the water.
The rowing event was the one Greyhaven had always taken personally.
Their fishermen understood boats.
But Blackridge had dominated for years.
Their crew looked stronger.
Bigger.
More experienced.
Ethan stood beside the Greyhaven boat.
Walter looked at him.
“You rowing?”
Ethan shook his head.
“Not unless someone falls out.”
Walter smiled.
“Good.”
The Greyhaven team climbed into the boat.
The Blackridge captain looked across the water.
He recognized Ethan.
“You’re the new guy.”
Ethan looked at him.
“Apparently.”
“You think you’re going to beat us?”
Ethan glanced at the Greyhaven crew.
“I don’t know.”
The captain laughed.
“At least you’re honest.”
Ethan looked back at him.
“But I think they’ll surprise you.”
The captain’s smile disappeared.
