THE DAY GREYHAVEN FINALLY STOOD TALL
Chapter 3
The first practice Ethan attended was almost embarrassing.
The athletes were talented.
But they lacked confidence.
They had spent years hearing the same thing.
Blackridge was better.
Blackridge was stronger.
Blackridge had better equipment.
Blackridge would win.
It had become part of their thinking.
One of the younger athletes threw a ball badly.
He immediately lowered his head.
“Sorry.”
Ethan walked toward him.
“Why are you apologizing?”
The boy looked confused.
“I messed up.”
“You did.”
The boy looked at him.
Ethan picked up the ball.
“So?”
The boy shrugged.
Ethan threw it back.
“Try again.”
He did.
Better.
Again.
Better.
Ethan nodded.
“Again.”
After several attempts, the boy finally made the throw perfectly.
He smiled.
Ethan handed him the ball.
“See?”
The boy looked at him.
“What?”
“You weren’t bad.”
Ethan turned away.
“You just stopped after the first mistake.”
The boy looked at the field.
Then threw the ball again.
