Saturday arrived.

Blackridge came early.

Their buses rolled into Greyhaven one after another.

Their uniforms were clean.

Their equipment was polished.

Their athletes looked confident.

Their supporters filled the streets.

Greyhaven’s people watched from sidewalks.

Nobody said anything.

Then a Blackridge athlete walked past Walter.

“Still using those old boats?”

Walter looked at him.

“Still talking before you’ve won?”

The athlete smiled.

“We’ve already won.”

Walter’s jaw tightened.

Ethan stood nearby.

He said nothing.

The Blackridge team walked away laughing.

Walter turned.

“You heard that?”

“Yeah.”

“Doesn’t bother you?”

Ethan looked toward the field.

“No.”

Walter frowned.

“Why?”

Ethan smiled slightly.

“Because he’s going to have to prove it.”
