The Billionaire’s Daughter Drove Every Maid Away — Until One Woman Refused to Be Afraid of Her
Chapter 6
The first real crisis came during a storm.
Heavy rain hit the city.
The mansion lost power.
Staff panicked.
Isabella hated storms.
She always had.
When she was a child, her mother had died during a medical emergency while thunder shook the windows.
Ever since, storms brought back memories she couldn’t control.
Clara found her sitting on the floor of the hallway.
“Isabella.”
“I’m fine.”
“No, you’re not.”
“Go away.”
Clara sat down beside her.
Lightning flashed.
Isabella flinched.
Clara didn’t touch her.
She simply stayed.
“You’re not afraid of me?”
“No.”
“Why?”
“Because I know what fear looks like.”
Isabella laughed nervously.
“You said that before.”
“And I meant it.”
The thunder grew louder.
Isabella finally whispered:
“My mother died during a storm.”
Clara nodded.
“I know.”
“I hate when it rains.”
“You don’t have to explain.”
Silence.
Another flash.
Isabella reached for Clara’s hand.
Clara let her.
They sat together until the storm passed.
The next morning, Isabella was embarrassed.
“I was pathetic.”
“No.”
“I cried.”
“You were scared.”
“Same thing.”
“No.”
Clara smiled.
“You’re allowed to be scared.”
Isabella looked at her.
“No one’s ever told me that.”
“Then someone should have.”
From that day on, something changed.
Isabella stopped treating Clara like staff.
She began treating her like someone she trusted.
And that trust would soon reveal something neither woman expected.
