The Billionaire’s Daughter Drove Every Maid Away — Until One Woman Refused to Be Afraid of Her

Chapter 2

Clara’s first morning began at five thirty.

She inspected the kitchen.

Checked the household schedule.

Spoke with the staff.

And then she walked into Isabella’s room at exactly seven.

Isabella was still in bed.

“Leave.”

Clara stood by the door.

“Breakfast is ready.”

“I’m not hungry.”

“That’s fine.”

Isabella frowned.

Clara turned.

“Wait.”

She stopped.

“You aren’t going to argue?”

“No.”

“Most people argue.”

“I don’t see the point.”

Isabella sat up.

“You know who I am?”

“Yes.”

“My father owns half the city.”

“I know.”

“I could fire you.”

Clara nodded.

“You could.”

Isabella stared at her.

Then asked:

“Why aren’t you scared?”

Clara looked at her.

“Because you’re a person.”

Isabella laughed.

“You think that makes you safe?”

“No.”

Clara’s expression remained calm.

“I think it makes you human.”

She left.

Isabella stared at the closed door.

No maid had ever spoken to her like that.

At breakfast, Isabella deliberately waited twenty minutes before coming downstairs.

Clara didn’t react.

She simply replaced the cold food with fresh plates.

Isabella sat.

“Where’s my father?”

“At work.”

“What did he say about me?”

“Nothing.”

“You’re lying.”

“No.”

Clara placed tea beside her.

“Your father hired me to run the household.”

“Not manage me.”

“Correct.”

“Then don’t.”

“I don’t intend to.”

Isabella took a bite.

The food was excellent.

She hated that.

“You’ll be gone in a week.”

Clara smiled.

“We’ll see.”

Isabella narrowed her eyes.

“You’re arrogant.”

“You’re observant.”

For the first time in months, Isabella almost smiled.

She stopped herself.

She wasn’t going to like this woman.

That would make things more complicated.
