She Was Forced to Marry an Infertile Mafia Boss — Months Later, Her Morning Sickness Shocked All

Chapter 7

The attack changed everything.

Security doubled.

Elena wasn’t allowed outside without protection.

Vincent stopped attending public meetings.

And every member of the organization was investigated.

But the biggest discovery came from Joseph, Vincent’s attorney.

He found a sealed hospital record.

The original fertility examination had been ordered by Vincent’s father.

The doctor who signed it had died years ago.

But there was a second signature.

A man named Richard Vale.

Richard had once been the family’s private physician.

He had also been secretly connected to Vincent’s uncle.

Joseph found bank transfers showing that Richard had received large payments for eight years.

Someone had paid him to maintain the lie.

Vincent stared at the documents.

“Where is he?”

“Retired in Michigan.”

“Bring him to me.”

Elena intervened.

“Not like that.”

Vincent looked at her.

“He lied to me for eight years.”

“I know.”

“And he almost destroyed our chance to have a family.”

“I know.”

“Then why are you defending him?”

“I’m not.”

Elena placed a hand on his arm.

“I’m asking you to find out the truth before you punish anyone.”

Vincent stared at her.

Then nodded.

They traveled to Michigan with a small security team.

Richard Vale lived in a quiet lakeside town.

He was seventy-two.

When he opened the door and saw Vincent, he nearly collapsed.

“I wondered when you’d come.”

Vincent’s eyes narrowed.

“You knew I’d find you.”

“Yes.”

“Why did you lie?”

Richard looked at Elena.

“Because your father believed he was protecting you.”

“From what?”

“From your uncle.”

Vincent stepped closer.

“That’s not enough.”

Richard sighed.

“Your uncle didn’t want the organization.”

Vincent waited.

“He wanted you.”

Silence.

Richard explained that Vincent’s uncle had discovered his father planned to name Vincent successor.

So he began eliminating every path that could create a legitimate heir.

The infertility lie was one piece.

There had been others.

Financial manipulation.

Political pressure.

Assassination attempts.

Even a failed attempt to arrange Vincent’s death when he was twenty-seven.

“And now?” Vincent asked.

Richard looked toward Elena.

“Now that you’re having a child, the old plan has returned.”

Elena felt cold.

“Who is behind it?”

Richard whispered,

“Your uncle’s son.”

Vincent’s face hardened.

“What is his name?”

Richard hesitated.

Then finally answered.

“Adrian Moreau.”

Elena’s heart stopped.

Moreau.

The name belonged to one of Chicago’s most powerful criminal families.

A family Elena had believed was completely unrelated to Vincent.

Richard handed Vincent a photograph.

Vincent stared at it.

Adrian was younger than him.

Elegant.

Smiling.

And standing beside Vincent’s father.

Someone had been waiting for years.

And now the baby had given him a reason to strike.
