She Was Forced to Marry an Infertile Mafia Boss — Months Later, Her Morning Sickness Shocked All

Chapter 5

Vincent didn’t speak for nearly a minute.

Elena had never seen him so shocked.

He looked at her.

Then at the bathroom.

Then back at her.

“You’re sure?”

She nodded.

“Three tests.”

He took a slow breath.

“Tomorrow we’re seeing my doctor.”

Elena’s voice trembled.

“Vincent, if you think—”

“I don’t.”

“You don’t know that.”

“I know you.”

His answer stopped her.

He reached for her hand.

“I know you wouldn’t betray me.”

She looked down.

“But you’re supposed to be infertile.”

“I know.”

The next morning, they went to a private clinic under heavy security.

The doctor performed bloodwork and an ultrasound.

Then he returned with a folder.

His face looked confused.

“Mr. DeLuca…”

Vincent stood.

“What?”

“The pregnancy is approximately eight weeks.”

Elena’s heart raced.

Eight weeks.

That matched.

The doctor continued.

“And there is no obvious medical explanation for why you conceived.”

Vincent’s eyes hardened.

“You’re telling me I can’t be the father?”

“No.”

The doctor hesitated.

“I’m telling you your old diagnosis needs to be reevaluated.”

Vincent stared at him.

“What changed?”

“Medical science has changed.”

“That doesn’t explain it.”

“No.”

The doctor opened another file.

“Your original fertility records were transferred from St. Mary’s Medical Center.”

Vincent frowned.

“That was eight years ago.”

“Yes.”

“Why are you showing me this?”

“Because the original report contains an unusual discrepancy.”

He turned the page.

Vincent read it.

His expression changed.

Elena watched him carefully.

“What does it say?”

The doctor looked uncomfortable.

“The original test appears to have been incomplete.”

Vincent’s jaw tightened.

“Incomplete?”

“Your hormone profile was never fully evaluated.”

“Then why was I told I was infertile?”

“I don’t know.”

Vincent took the report.

“Find out.”

The doctor nodded.

On the way home, neither spoke.

Finally, Elena asked,

“Do you think someone lied to you?”

Vincent stared through the window.

“I think someone wanted me to believe I could never have an heir.”

“Why?”

His eyes darkened.

“Because in my family, an heir means power.”

Elena understood immediately.

If Vincent could have children, someone might eventually inherit the DeLuca empire.

Someone could challenge the people currently controlling it.

That evening, Vincent gathered his inner circle.

His cousin Marco.

His attorney Joseph.

His security chief Luca.

And an older man named Carlo, who had served Vincent’s father.

Vincent placed the medical report on the table.

“I want the original records.”

Carlo went pale.

“You should leave the past alone.”

Vincent looked at him.

“What did you just say?”

“I said the past is dangerous.”

Vincent leaned forward.

“Someone told me I was infertile for eight years.”

Silence.

Then Carlo whispered,

“Your father ordered the report changed.”

Vincent froze.

“My father?”

“He believed you needed to remain childless.”

“Why?”

Carlo looked toward the door.

“Because your uncle wanted the organization.”

Vincent’s expression became deadly.

“My uncle died ten years ago.”

Carlo swallowed.

“His son didn’t.”

The room fell silent.

Somewhere upstairs, Elena placed a hand over her stomach.

She had believed her pregnancy was a miracle.

Now she realized it might also be a declaration of war.
