She Overheard His Secret Divorce Plot—Then Emptied Every Account Before Dawn

Chapter 7

The investigation uncovered a hidden archive beneath the company’s oldest building.

Emma, Ethan, and federal agents entered it together.

Daniel had given them the access code.

The room was filled with documents.

Bank records.

Property deeds.

Old recordings.

Photographs.

Emma found a photograph of her father standing beside a younger Richard Hale.

On the back:

If I disappear, trust no one on the board.

Ethan found a second photograph.

Their father with Daniel.

The date was two months before his death.

“Daniel was working with him.”

Emma stared.

“Then why didn’t they tell me?”

The answer came from an audio recording.

Her father’s voice.

“Emma is safer if she believes I’m gone.”

Emma covered her mouth.

“I thought he abandoned me.”

Ethan squeezed her shoulder.

“He didn’t.”

The recording continued.

“Daniel knows what I found.”

“Richard Hale is not the mastermind.”

Emma looked at Ethan.

“Then who?”

The answer was another name.

Martin Harrison.

Their mother’s brother.

The real architect.

Emma sat down.

She remembered Martin.

Charming.

Funny.

Always bringing expensive gifts.

He had disappeared after their father’s death.

No explanation.

“Where is he?”

The investigators had already traced him.

A private estate outside the country.

They found another surprise.

Martin wasn’t alone.

Richard was there.

The two men had been partners for years.

The divorce plan was designed by both.

Martin wanted the family trust.

Richard wanted the company.

Daniel was their tool.

Marcus had been blackmailed.

Rachel had been paid.

Even Emma’s medical records had been fabricated by a doctor connected to Martin.

The operation was enormous.

And it was collapsing.

But one problem remained.

Lily.

The investigators discovered Martin had made a transfer into a protected children’s trust.

The beneficiary was Lily.

Emma frowned.

“What is that?”

The lawyer explained.

“Your daughter was supposed to inherit the controlling voting rights when she turned eighteen.”

Emma stared.

“So they wanted to control the company until then.”

“Yes.”

“And Daniel?”

“Temporary trustee.”

Emma closed her eyes.

Everything made sense.

The divorce would remove Emma.

Daniel would become sole trustee.

Richard and Martin would control him.

Then they would control Lily’s future.

Emma looked at Ethan.

“We need to protect her.”

“We will.”

They returned home.

Lily was waiting.

She ran into Emma’s arms.

“Mom!”

Emma held her tightly.

“You’re okay.”

“Why wouldn’t I be?”

Emma couldn’t answer.

That night, she sat beside Lily’s bed.

She watched her daughter sleep.

She thought about the money.

The company.

The trust.

The betrayal.

Then she realized something.

She had spent years believing her family was protected because it was wealthy.

But wealth had been the reason everyone lied.

The only thing that had survived the lies was Lily’s trust in her mother.

Emma kissed her forehead.

“I’ll fix this.”

At 2:00 a.m., Daniel sent her one final message.

Meet me alone tomorrow.

Emma hesitated.

Then another message arrived.

I know who ordered your father’s murder.

She stared at the screen.

It wasn’t Martin.

It wasn’t Richard.

The name Daniel sent next made her blood run cold.

Your mother.
