She Overheard His Secret Divorce Plot—Then Emptied Every Account Before Dawn
Chapter 3
Rachel arrived at the Brooks residence at 6:15 a.m.
She walked in with a leather bag and a smile.
“Daniel asked me to bring the divorce documents.”
Emma was standing in the kitchen.
She turned slowly.
“What divorce documents?”
Rachel blinked.
Then smiled.
“For the attorney.”
Emma nodded.
“Of course.”
Rachel placed the bag on the counter.
“Daniel is in the study.”
Emma’s chest tightened.
“He is?”
“Yes.”
“You can go.”
Rachel hesitated.
“Mrs. Brooks—”
“You can go.”
Rachel looked at her for a moment.
Then left.
Emma waited until the front door closed.
Ethan came downstairs.
“That’s her.”
Emma nodded.
“You think she knows?”
“I know she knows.”
He opened the bag.
Inside were divorce papers.
A proposed settlement.
Two pages caught Emma’s attention.
She read them.
The house went to Daniel.
The company shares went to Daniel.
The investment portfolio went to Daniel.
Emma would receive temporary support for six months.
Then nothing.
She laughed.
Not because it was funny.
Because it was unbelievable.
“He thinks I don’t know the trust exists.”
Ethan looked at the papers.
“He thinks you don’t know anything.”
Emma picked up the final page.
There was a signature.
Daniel’s.
The date was today.
But something was wrong.
“The divorce isn’t filed.”
“Not yet.”
“Then why sign?”
“To make you believe it’s already decided.”
Emma stared at the document.
“He’s confident.”
Ethan nodded.
“Too confident.”
They went into the study.
Daniel wasn’t there.
But his computer was open.
Emma sat down.
She didn’t touch anything.
Ethan did.
A file was open.
Project Renewal.
“What’s that?” Emma asked.
Ethan clicked.
It contained company financial plans.
Nothing unusual.
Then a subfolder appeared.
Phase Two.
Inside were property transfers.
Stock allocations.
Private payments.
And a personal note.
Emma must be completely dependent by March.
Emma’s face went white.
“March?”
“It’s September.”
Ethan nodded.
“He’s been planning this for months.”
She scrolled.
There were notes about Lily’s school.
Her schedule.
Medical appointments.
Even her friendships.
Daniel had documented them.
“Why?”
Ethan read the next line.
Once divorce is complete, remove her access to family assets.
Emma couldn’t breathe.
He hadn’t been planning to leave her.
He had been planning to dismantle her life.
One piece at a time.
She closed the file.
“We need everything.”
Ethan looked at her.
“Everything?”
“Every account. Every document. Every secret.”
She opened the company portal.
Daniel had admin access.
But Emma had something he didn’t know.
Her late mother’s original shareholder agreement.
A physical copy.
It gave Emma voting rights over 48% of the company.
She had never used them.
Until now.
Ethan called a corporate lawyer.
Within an hour, the lawyer arrived.
He read the agreement.
Then looked at Emma.
“This changes everything.”
“How?”
“You can call an emergency shareholder meeting.”
“Can Daniel stop it?”
“No.”
“Can Marcus?”
“No.”
Rachel?
“No.”
Emma sat back.
For the first time since midnight, she allowed herself to breathe.
Then the lawyer asked:
“Mrs. Brooks, why are you activating this now?”
Emma looked toward the study.
“Because my husband is trying to divorce me.”
The lawyer nodded.
“And you believe he’s acting against the company’s interest?”
Emma looked at the documents.
“I know he is.”
The lawyer closed the folder.
“Then we’re not dealing with a divorce.”
“What are we dealing with?”
“Corporate fraud.”
Emma’s phone buzzed.
A message from Daniel.
We need to talk.
She stared at it.
Then another message.
I know you’re moving money.
Emma’s heart stopped.
He knew.
She looked at Ethan.
“He knows.”
Ethan calmly replied,
“Then we move faster.”
Emma typed one sentence.
Come home.
Daniel replied immediately.
I’m already on my way.
She put the phone down.
The game had changed.
And before Daniel arrived…
Emma had one final account to empty.
The one he didn’t know existed.
