She Hired a Poor Mechanic to Fix Her Car… Then Discovered He Was a Billionaire!
Chapter 3
The security footage showed a man near Emma’s car at 6:58 a.m.
He wore a baseball cap and dark jacket.
His face wasn’t visible.
But the footage proved Daniel was right.
Someone had deliberately interfered with Emma’s car.
Richard immediately called corporate security.
Emma watched him pace.
“Do you know who did this?”
“No.”
“Dad.”
“I said no.”
His tone was sharper than usual.
Emma stared at him.
“Why are you angry?”
“Because someone tried to sabotage you.”
“That doesn’t explain your reaction.”
Richard stopped.
“Emma, there are people who don’t want this project approved.”
“Who?”
“Competitors.”
He walked away.
Emma wasn’t convinced.
That afternoon, she returned to the roadside shop.
Daniel was repairing an old truck.
He looked surprised.
“You came back.”
“I need to ask you something.”
“Okay.”
“Why would someone sabotage my car?”
Daniel continued working.
“I don’t know.”
“You seemed very sure this morning.”
“I know cars.”
“That isn’t what I mean.”
He looked at her.
“You think it has something to do with your company.”
“I think someone wanted me late to that presentation.”
Daniel nodded.
“That makes sense.”
“Why?”
“If you missed the meeting, someone else could have presented your proposal.”
Emma’s eyes narrowed.
“You know a lot about business for a mechanic.”
He smiled.
“People talk.”
“What people?”
“Customers.”
She studied him.
There was something unusual about Daniel.
His hands looked like a mechanic’s.
His clothes looked like a mechanic’s.
But his speech didn’t.
He was too precise.
Too educated.
Too calm.
Emma suddenly noticed the old watch on his wrist.
It was scratched.
But the design looked expensive.
“Where did you get that?”
Daniel looked at it.
“Family.”
“It’s nice.”
“Thanks.”
She hesitated.
“Do you always work here?”
“Sometimes.”
“What does that mean?”
“I help my uncle.”
“Full-time?”
“No.”
“Then what do you do?”
Daniel smiled.
“Different things.”
Emma laughed.
“You’re very mysterious.”
“Maybe you’re asking too many questions.”
She crossed her arms.
“Maybe.”
He looked at her.
“What do you want?”
“The truth.”
Daniel’s expression softened.
“About what?”
“About you.”
He didn’t answer.
Then a black SUV pulled into the shop.
A sharply dressed man stepped out.
“Mr. Carter.”
Emma looked at Daniel.
The man’s face became serious.
“I need to speak with you.”
Daniel nodded.
“Give me a minute.”
The man waited.
Emma looked between them.
“Who is he?”
Daniel hesitated.
“A business associate.”
The man glanced at Emma.
Then looked at Daniel.
“We need to leave.”
Daniel nodded.
Emma watched them get into the SUV.
Something didn’t add up.
A mechanic didn’t usually have business associates arriving in black SUVs.
And the way that man addressed Daniel wasn’t casual.
It was respectful.
Almost deferential.
Emma looked at the shop again.
The faded sign.
The old trucks.
The broken windows.
Something was hidden here.
She just didn’t know what.
