She Hired a Poor Mechanic to Fix Her Car… Then Discovered He Was a Billionaire!
Chapter 7
Victor Shaw disappeared that afternoon.
His phone was disconnected.
His office was empty.
His apartment had been cleared.
Emma’s father refused to answer calls.
Daniel realized the situation was escalating.
He brought Emma to a secure office inside Carter Industries.
She entered the building and stopped.
Employees immediately recognized Daniel.
They greeted him.
“Good morning, Mr. Carter.”
“Morning, sir.”
“Welcome back.”
Emma looked at him.
“You’ve been here before?”
“I own the company.”
“Right.”
She shook her head.
Daniel smiled.
He introduced her to Michael.
Michael looked surprised.
“So this is Emma.”
She frowned.
“You’ve heard of me?”
“Yes.”
Daniel glared at him.
Michael smiled.
“Your work has been discussed at board level.”
Emma looked at Daniel.
“Why?”
“Because your redevelopment proposal could be valuable.”
She crossed her arms.
“Or because you were investigating me?”
Daniel hesitated.
“Both.”
She didn’t know whether to be angry.
Before she could respond, Michael entered with new information.
“Victor transferred money to an offshore account.”
“Whose?” Daniel asked.
“Richard Reynolds.”
Emma’s face went pale.
“My father.”
Michael nodded.
“We also found communications between Richard and the competitor.”
Emma sat down.
She couldn’t breathe.
Daniel crouched beside her.
“Are you okay?”
She nodded.
“No.”
He took her hand.
“We’ll find the truth.”
She looked at him.
“How can I trust you?”
“You don’t have to.”
“But I want to.”
Daniel looked into her eyes.
“I’ll give you a reason.”
They discovered the final piece that night.
Richard hadn’t been paid to sabotage Emma.
He had been blackmailed.
Years earlier, Reynolds Development had illegally acquired land through a shell company.
Victor had discovered it.
The competitor threatened to expose Richard unless he helped destroy Emma’s proposal.
Richard had agreed.
Emma was devastated.
But there was more.
The competitor planned to take control of Reynolds Development after the failed project.
They intended to remove Richard.
Then force Emma out.
Daniel closed the file.
“We have enough.”
Emma shook her head.
“Not yet.”
“What?”
“I want my father to tell me himself.”
Daniel nodded.
“Then we’ll go.”
They drove to Richard’s private estate.
The house was dark.
Too dark.
Emma knocked.
No answer.
She opened the door.
“Dad?”
Silence.
Then she heard something upstairs.
A crash.
Daniel immediately moved in front of her.
“Stay behind me.”
They climbed the stairs.
The bedroom was empty.
A window was open.
Richard was gone.
On the bed was a note.
Emma picked it up.
Three words.
Stop digging, Emma.
