She Hired a Cold Bodyguard to Protect Her From the World — Then He Became the Only Place She Felt Safe
Chapter 8
Ava had never experienced anything like it.
Daniel’s mother made pancakes the next morning.
She complained that Daniel never called enough.
She showed Ava embarrassing childhood photographs.
Ava laughed until her stomach hurt.
At one point, she whispered to Daniel:
“Your mother is wonderful.”
“She likes you.”
“How do you know?”
“She gave you the last piece of pie.”
Ava smiled.
“That’s serious.”
It was.
For the first time, Ava understood what simple family love felt like.
No contracts.
No publicity.
No expectations.
Just affection.
On the drive back to Los Angeles, she was quiet.
Daniel glanced at her.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing.”
“You’re thinking.”
She smiled.
“I was just imagining what it would have been like to grow up with this.”
He reached across the console and took her hand.
“You can have it now.”
Her eyes filled with tears.
She leaned against the seat.
“I think I’m falling in love with you.”
Daniel was silent.
Then he smiled.
“Good.”
She laughed.
“That’s all?”
“I was hoping you’d say it first.”
She looked at him.
“You are impossible.”
“Still?”
“Especially now.”
