She Hired a Cold Bodyguard to Protect Her From the World — Then He Became the Only Place She Felt Safe
Chapter 5
Their relationship remained undefined.
Neither crossed the line.
Until a dangerous night changed everything.
After a charity gala, photographers surrounded Ava’s car.
Security moved her toward the entrance.
Then a man broke through the crowd.
Daniel immediately stepped in front of Ava.
He pushed her behind him.
The man was restrained within seconds.
But Ava’s hands were shaking.
Daniel turned toward her.
“Are you hurt?”
She shook her head.
“No.”
“Are you sure?”
She nodded.
He placed a hand gently on her shoulder.
“I’m here.”
Those two words were enough.
Ava looked at him differently.
That night, she couldn’t sleep.
She walked downstairs.
Daniel was sitting in the living room.
“You should rest.”
“So should you.”
He looked up.
“I’m fine.”
She smiled.
“There it is again.”
He laughed quietly.
Ava sat beside him.
“Thank you.”
“For what?”
“For always being there.”
He looked at her.
“It’s my job.”
She shook her head.
“Not tonight.”
Their eyes met.
Neither moved.
Ava whispered:
“What happens if I stop thinking of you as my bodyguard?”
Daniel’s jaw tightened.
“That would make things complicated.”
“Why?”
“Because I’m already trying not to think of you as my client.”
Her heart raced.
But before either could say more, his phone rang.
The moment disappeared.
Neither slept much that night.
