Nobody Told the New Nurse Which Patient to Avoid—So She Healed the Mafia Boss First
Chapter 5
The woman entered Room 417 wearing a black coat.
She looked elegant.
Beautiful.
Calm.
And very angry.
Adrian’s face went cold.
“Victoria.”
Nora looked between them.
“Who is she?”
Victoria Hart smiled.
“I’m Adrian’s wife.”
Nora froze.
Adrian said nothing.
Victoria approached the bed.
“You look terrible.”
“Get out.”
She laughed softly.
“You always were dramatic.”
Nora stepped forward.
“Visiting hours are over.”
Victoria looked at her.
“Who are you?”
“Nurse Bennett.”
“She isn’t family.”
“No.”
Adrian’s voice was cold.
“She isn’t family.”
Victoria looked at him.
“Not yet.”
Nora felt uncomfortable.
She checked the monitor.
Adrian’s pulse was rising.
Victoria noticed.
“Still affected by me.”
“Leave,” Adrian said.
Victoria ignored him.
“Emma misses you.”
“She shouldn’t.”
“She’s asking questions.”
“I know.”
“She wants to know why her father disappeared.”
Nora stared.
Adrian looked furious.
“Don’t mention my daughter.”
Victoria smiled.
“You still care.”
“Of course I care.”
“Then cooperate.”
“With what?”
“Give me the company.”
Nora understood.
This wasn’t about family.
It was business.
Victoria wanted control.
Adrian laughed bitterly.
“You already have enough.”
“Not enough.”
“What do you want?”
“Everything.”
Victor appeared in the doorway.
Nora recognized him.
Victoria looked at him.
“Did you finish?”
“Almost.”
Adrian stared.
“What did you do?”
Victor walked toward him.
“The same thing we always do.”
Nora stepped between them.
“You are not touching him.”
Victoria laughed.
“You really are a good nurse.”
“Thank you.”
“I wasn’t complimenting you.”
Nora didn’t move.
Victoria looked at Adrian.
“She’s brave.”
“She is.”
“Bravery doesn’t last.”
Victoria left.
Victor stayed.
He reached for Adrian’s IV.
Nora blocked him.
“Don’t.”
Victor’s eyes narrowed.
“Nurse.”
“You’re not authorized.”
“I am family counsel.”
“You’re not medical staff.”
Victor smiled.
“Good luck.”
He left.
Nora immediately checked the line.
A second puncture mark was visible.
Someone had injected something.
She called the doctor.
But before help arrived, Adrian stopped breathing.
Nora began resuscitation.
“Adrian!”
Nothing.
She started compressions.
“One, two, three…”
The room filled with alarms.
Another nurse rushed in.
The crash cart followed.
After three minutes, Adrian’s heart returned.
Nora stepped back, shaking.
The doctor looked stunned.
“You saved him.”
“No.”
She looked at the IV.
“Someone poisoned him.”
The doctor checked the line.
His face changed.
“Sedative.”
“Too much?”
“Fatal dose.”
Nora looked toward the hallway.
Victoria and Victor were gone.
Adrian slowly opened his eyes.
He looked at her.
“You should hate me.”
She swallowed.
“I don’t.”
“Why?”
“Because none of this is your fault.”
He looked at her.
“You don’t know that.”
“Then tell me.”
He hesitated.
“I wasn’t always the man you think I am.”
Nora waited.
Adrian whispered:
“I became a criminal because I needed to protect my family.”
“From what?”
“My father.”
Nora froze.
“Your father?”
Adrian nodded.
“He built the empire.”
“And you?”
“I inherited it.”
“Then why fight him?”
Adrian looked away.
“Because my father was the reason my mother died.”
Nora stared.
“And the reason I became the man everyone fears.”
