Nobody Told the New Nurse Which Patient to Avoid—So She Healed the Mafia Boss First
Chapter 7
Nora wanted to go.
Adrian refused.
“No.”
“Your daughter asked for help.”
“It’s a trap.”
“Obviously.”
“Then don’t go.”
Nora looked at him.
“You’re injured.”
“I don’t care.”
“You should.”
“I care about Emma.”
“So do I.”
He stared.
“You barely know her.”
“I know enough.”
He looked away.
Nora understood the conflict.
He wanted to save his daughter.
He was afraid Nora would be used against him.
She sat beside him.
“Tell me where.”
He hesitated.
Then gave her an address.
An abandoned hotel on the city’s west side.
Nora and Adrian’s security team went there.
But Adrian stayed behind.
Nora entered alone with one guard.
The lobby was empty.
A child’s shoe lay on the floor.
Nora picked it up.
“Emma.”
A voice came from upstairs.
“Nurse Bennett.”
She looked up.
Victor.
He was holding a gun.
“Come alone.”
The guard reached for his weapon.
Victor fired.
The guard fell.
Nora froze.
“Upstairs.”
She followed.
Room 203.
Emma was there.
Alive.
Tied to a chair.
Beside her was Clara.
Adrian’s sister.
Clara was unconscious.
Nora ran to Emma.
“Are you okay?”
Emma nodded through tears.
“Where’s my daddy?”
“He’s safe.”
Victor laughed.
“You shouldn’t lie to children.”
Nora glared.
“Let them go.”
“Not yet.”
“What do you want?”
“The same thing everyone wants.”
“Money?”
“No.”
Victor looked at Emma.
“Power.”
Nora understood.
He wanted Adrian’s empire.
But why target the nurse?
Because Victor believed Adrian trusted her.
“Why me?”
Victor smiled.
“Because Adrian has never cared about a stranger before.”
Nora froze.
She had become leverage.
Victor had understood before she did.
“You changed him.”
He stepped closer.
“And that makes you dangerous.”
Nora looked at Emma.
“I’m not the one you want.”
Victor shook his head.
“You are.”
He handed her a phone.
“Call Adrian.”
Nora did.
He answered immediately.
“Nora?”
“I’m okay.”
“Where are you?”
She hesitated.
Victor pointed the gun.
“Tell him.”
“Westside Hotel.”
Silence.
Then Adrian’s voice changed.
“I’m coming.”
“No.”
“I’m coming.”
“Don’t.”
Victor smiled.
Nora understood.
Adrian wasn’t going to listen.
He would walk into the trap.
Twenty minutes later, headlights surrounded the hotel.
Adrian entered with two men.
Victor appeared on the balcony.
“Put your gun down.”
Adrian dropped it.
“Let them go.”
Victor laughed.
“You still think this is about Emma.”
Adrian looked at Nora.
“Are you hurt?”
“No.”
“Good.”
Victor pointed at Nora.
“That’s what I wanted.”
Adrian’s eyes changed.
“You’ll regret this.”
Victor smiled.
“You already did.”
Then gunfire erupted.
The lights went out.
Nora grabbed Emma and pulled her behind a pillar.
Adrian rushed forward.
A gunshot rang out.
He fell.
“Adrian!”
Nora ran toward him.
Blood spread across his shirt.
But before she could reach him, someone grabbed her from behind.
A man’s voice whispered:
“Now you’re coming with me.”
