Daniel helped.
So did several honest hospital employees who had been quietly waiting for someone to expose the truth.
Within hours, law enforcement had the evidence.
Marcus’s network began collapsing.
But Marcus disappeared.
He had one last move.
He took Emma.
Adrian’s daughter.
Again.
This time, he sent one message.
Come alone.
Adrian wanted to go.
Nora stopped him.
“No.”
“I’m going.”
“You’ll die.”
“I don’t care.”
“I do.”
He looked at her.
She took his hand.
“You don’t get to leave me after all this.”
He stared.
“You’re serious.”
“Very.”
They went together.
The location was an old theater owned by the Cole family.
Empty.
Dusty.
Huge.
Emma sat on the stage.
Marcus stood behind her.
He held a gun.
Adrian stepped forward.
“Let her go.”
Marcus smiled.
“You finally brought the nurse.”
“She stays out of this.”
Marcus laughed.
“She is the only reason you’re still alive.”
Adrian looked at Nora.
Marcus continued.
“She has your father’s courage.”
Nora stared.
“I don’t want your approval.”
“You should.”
“No.”
She stepped forward.
“You built a world where everyone was afraid of you.”
Marcus raised his gun.
“And?”
“You forgot fear isn’t loyalty.”
Silence.
Daniel appeared in the balcony.
Marcus looked up.
Too late.
Police flooded the theater.
Marcus grabbed Emma.
Adrian moved.
“Let her go.”
Marcus pointed the gun.
Then something unexpected happened.
Emma bit his hand.
He yelled.
Adrian rushed forward.
Nora grabbed Emma.
Daniel tackled Marcus.
The gun slid across the stage.
Police arrested him.
For a moment, nobody moved.
Then Emma ran to Adrian.
“Daddy!”
He held her tightly.
“I’ve got you.”
Nora watched them.
Adrian looked over Emma’s shoulder.
Their eyes met.
He smiled.
Later, Marcus was sentenced.
The criminal organization collapsed.
Victoria cooperated.
Daniel testified.
Victor disappeared before being arrested, but the evidence against him remained.
The hospital established new security rules.
The staff who had been silent finally spoke.
And Nora returned to Room 417.
It was empty.
The room had become a normal patient room again.
She stood in the doorway.
Adrian appeared beside her.
“You okay?”
“Yes.”
“You sure?”
She smiled.
“I think so.”
He looked inside.
“You saved my life here.”
“You were my patient.”
“I was more than that.”
Nora looked at him.
“What?”
He answered:
“You were the first person who saw me before you saw the monster.”
She smiled.
“You weren’t a monster.”
“I was.”
“Maybe.”
He looked surprised.
She continued:
“But people can change.”
He took her hand.
“Can I?”
“You already are.”
He leaned closer.
Then stopped.
“What?”
“You’re still technically my patient.”
He laughed.
“So?”
“So no kissing.”
He sighed.
“How long?”
“Until you’re discharged.”
“That could take weeks.”
“Good.”
He smiled.
“Cruel nurse.”
She laughed.
But the smile faded when she noticed something on his wrist.
Three letters.
N.B.
She pointed.
“You still haven’t told me what that means.”
Adrian stared at the mark.
Then smiled.
“My father gave it to me.”
“Why?”
He looked at her.
“You’ll find out.”
