My Wife Died 4 Years Ago — Then I Saw Her Holding Another Man’s Hand on a Luxury Cruise

Chapter 2

I didn’t sleep.

I sat on the edge of the bed staring at the note.

The handwriting meant nothing to me.

But the message did.

Claire had seen me.

She knew who I was.

And she had run.

At sunrise, I went to guest services and asked for passenger records.

The woman behind the counter politely refused.

I gave her Claire’s full name.

She searched the system.

Nothing.

“No passenger by that name, sir.”

“What about a woman traveling alone?”

“I’m sorry.”

“She was with a man.”

The employee looked uncomfortable.

“Can you describe her?”

I did.

She searched again.

Nothing.

I returned to my cabin.

My hands were shaking.

I opened my laptop and searched through old photographs.

There she was.

The same face.

The same bracelet.

The same scar above her eyebrow.

There was no possibility of mistaken identity.

My wife was alive.

Or someone wanted me to believe she was.

That afternoon, I received another message.

This time on my phone.

Stop looking for her.

I stared at the screen.

Then another message appeared.

You don’t know what she became.

I immediately called the FBI.

But before I could explain everything, someone knocked.

I opened the door.

A woman stood outside.

Mid-thirties.

Dark hair.

Cruise staff identification around her neck.

“My name is Elena Rodriguez.”

“What do you want?”

“I saw what happened last night.”

My heart raced.

“You saw Claire?”

She nodded.

“Her name isn’t Claire.”

I froze.

“What?”

“She travels under another identity.”

“Why?”

Elena looked down the hallway.

“Because four years ago, your wife didn’t die.”

“Then what happened?”

“She disappeared.”

“From whom?”

Elena hesitated.

“From people who wanted her dead.”

I stared at her.

“Why didn’t she come home?”

Elena’s expression softened.

“Because she thought you were one of them.”

I stepped back.

“That makes no sense.”

“It will.”

She handed me a small envelope.

Inside was a photograph.

Claire.

Standing beside a man.

The same man from the ballroom.

On the back was a date.

Four years ago.

Three days after Claire supposedly died.

I looked at Elena.

“She was alive.”

“Yes.”

“Why didn’t she contact me?”

Elena whispered:

“Because someone convinced her that if she returned to you, you would both die.”
