My Wife Died 4 Years Ago — Then I Saw Her Holding Another Man’s Hand on a Luxury Cruise
Chapter 8
The marina was almost empty.
Fog covered the water.
A single yacht waited near the dock.
I walked toward it alone.
Then I heard her voice.
“Daniel.”
I turned.
Claire stood beneath a streetlamp.
For four years, I had dreamed of seeing her again.
I had imagined hugging her.
Kissing her.
Telling her I loved her.
Instead, I couldn’t move.
She looked at me.
Her eyes filled with tears.
“You’re alive.”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
She swallowed.
“Because dying was the only way to keep you alive.”
I stepped closer.
“You let me bury you.”
“I had no choice.”
“You had four years.”
“I watched you.”
“You watched me?”
“Every birthday.”
“Every anniversary.”
“Every Sunday at my grave.”
My eyes filled with tears.
“You saw me?”
“Yes.”
“Then why didn’t you come home?”
She looked away.
“Because I believed you were being watched.”
“By Marcus?”
She nodded.
“He wanted the ledger.”
“Where is it?”
Claire looked at me.
“You have it.”
I froze.
“What?”
“The ledger was never a book.”
She pointed toward the yacht.
“It’s inside the ship.”
I looked back.
“Why bring me here?”
“Because we need to get it before Marcus does.”
Then a gunshot cracked through the fog.
Claire grabbed me.
“Run!”
Men emerged from the darkness.
We sprinted toward the yacht.
Adrian appeared from behind a vehicle and fired into the air.
“Get aboard!”
We ran.
The yacht pulled away from the dock.
Behind us, the men disappeared into the fog.
Claire collapsed against the railing.
I caught her.
For the first time in four years, I held my wife.
But she whispered:
“Daniel…”
“What?”
“The man who ordered my death…”
She looked at me.
“…was your mother.”
