My Wife Died 4 Years Ago — Then I Saw Her Holding Another Man’s Hand on a Luxury Cruise
Chapter 4
I spent the next morning digging through every document I had from Claire’s death.
The police report.
Insurance papers.
The boat registration.
The death certificate.
Everything.
One detail bothered me.
The boat had belonged to Claire’s father.
But according to the police report, Claire had taken it alone.
That wasn’t true.
I remembered the night clearly.
She had called me before leaving.
She said she was meeting someone.
I had forgotten about that.
Until now.
I checked my old phone backups.
There was a voicemail.
Claire’s voice.
“Daniel, if I don’t come home tonight, don’t call the police.”
I froze.
The recording continued.
“Just trust me.”
Then another voice could be heard faintly in the background.
A man.
I couldn’t understand what he said.
The voicemail ended.
I listened again.
And again.
Then I realized something.
Claire hadn’t been afraid of an accident.
She had been afraid of someone.
I showed the recording to Elena.
Her face changed.
“You need to leave the ship.”
“Why?”
“Because they know you’ve heard it.”
“Who?”
She looked at me.
“The people Claire escaped from.”
Before she could say more, the ship suddenly shook.
An alarm sounded.
Passengers began moving toward the exits.
Elena grabbed my arm.
“Don’t go with them.”
“What happened?”
“Engine problem.”
I looked at her.
“You don’t believe that.”
“No.”
She pulled me into a storage room.
A few seconds later, a crew member walked past.
He stopped outside.
Then whispered:
“Find him.”
Elena covered my mouth.
The footsteps disappeared.
I looked at her.
“What is happening?”
She whispered:
“They’ve found you.”
