My Wife Died 4 Years Ago — Then I Saw Her Holding Another Man’s Hand on a Luxury Cruise
Chapter 7
The man was alive.
His real name was Marcus Vale.
He had been using my brother’s identity for years.
My father had discovered him.
Claire had discovered him.
And somehow, I had been kept completely unaware.
Adrian explained that Marcus was involved with Blackwater Meridian.
He had used my father’s company to move money.
Then he disappeared.
But Claire had followed the trail.
She found him.
And Marcus discovered that she knew too much.
“So he killed her?”
“No.”
Adrian shook his head.
“He wanted her alive.”
“Why?”
“Because Claire had something.”
“What?”
“A ledger.”
The ledger contained the names of everyone involved.
Politicians.
Judges.
Businessmen.
Law enforcement officers.
And one name appeared repeatedly.
Mine.
I stared.
“Why is my name there?”
“Because Marcus wanted everyone to believe you were part of it.”
I felt sick.
“But Claire knew I wasn’t.”
“Yes.”
“Then why did she disappear?”
Adrian looked at me.
“Because she believed someone close to you had betrayed her.”
“Who?”
He didn’t answer.
Then my phone rang.
The caller ID showed Claire.
I froze.
Adrian grabbed my arm.
“Don’t answer.”
I answered anyway.
“Claire?”
Silence.
Then her voice.
“Daniel.”
I couldn’t breathe.
“Where are you?”
“I can’t tell you.”
“Are you safe?”
“No.”
“Let me come to you.”
“You can’t.”
“Why?”
“Because you’re being followed.”
I looked at Adrian.
Claire whispered:
“Trust nobody.”
Then the line went dead.
A second later, my phone received a location.
A private marina.
I looked at Adrian.
“She wants me to come.”
He shook his head.
“It’s a trap.”
I didn’t care.
She was alive.
And I was going to find her.
