My Fiancé Skipped Our Wedding for His Assistant — Then I Married the Billionaire Who Had Loved Me
Chapter 3
Natalie had known Alexander since university.
He had always been there.
At charity events.
Business conferences.
Mutual friends’ dinners.
He was reserved.
Intelligent.
Almost intimidating.
She had never understood why he was always so patient with her.
After her wedding disaster, she moved temporarily into her sister’s guesthouse.
For weeks, she avoided the media.
Daniel never called.
His family offered no explanation.
Then Natalie learned the truth.
Daniel had left with his executive assistant, Victoria Lane.
The same woman who had worked beside him for three years.
The same woman Natalie had trusted.
The betrayal hurt more than the broken engagement.
Daniel hadn’t simply chosen another woman.
He had chosen someone who had been standing inside their relationship all along.
One rainy afternoon, Natalie found a package outside the house.
Inside was a folder.
Financial records.
Emails.
Photographs.
Someone had been investigating Daniel’s company.
At the bottom of the folder was a note.
You were not the reason the wedding failed. He was already planning to leave.
Natalie looked at the handwriting.
She knew it.
Alexander.
She called him.
“Did you send this?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because you deserve the truth.”
She swallowed.
“How long have you known?”
“Long enough.”
“Why didn’t you tell me before the wedding?”
A pause.
“Because I thought you would accuse me of trying to destroy your marriage.”
Natalie closed her eyes.
She hated that he was right.
