Ethan began spending time with Noah.
He learned the boy loved dinosaurs.
Hated peas.
Could spend hours drawing.
And had a habit of asking impossible questions.
“Why do you wear a suit all the time?”
Ethan laughed.
“Because I’m usually working.”
“Why?”
“Because I’m a businessman.”
“What’s that?”
Ethan looked at Olivia.
She smiled.
“You’ll have to explain.”
He took a breath.
“It means I build things.”
Noah smiled.
“I build Lego things.”
“Then maybe we’re similar.”
Olivia watched them.
Something inside her softened.
But she remained careful.
One evening, Ethan asked:
“Do you still hate me?”
She shook her head.
“No.”
“Do you love me?”
She looked away.
“I don’t know.”
It was the first honest answer she’d given him.
Ethan nodded.
“I deserve that.”
He paused.
“But I want the chance to earn your trust again.”
Olivia looked at him.
“You can’t undo five years.”
“I know.”
“You can’t give me back the years you missed with Noah.”
“I know.”
“Then what do you want?”
He answered quietly.
“Tomorrow.”
She looked at him.
