I Woke Up Holding My Nurse’s Hand… Then She Whispered, “You Still Don’t Remember Me?”
Chapter 9
Six months later, Daniel returned to work.
Greg was facing federal charges.
Rachel had agreed to cooperate.
The company survived.
But Daniel changed.
He stopped working eighteen-hour days.
He spent more time with Sophie.
And he stopped pretending that success mattered more than people.
Emily left the hospital.
Not because she disliked nursing.
She simply wanted something different.
Daniel offered her a position managing a new charitable foundation.
She accepted.
Together, they created programs for families dealing with medical emergencies.
Their foundation helped people who couldn’t afford treatment.
It was Emily’s idea.
Daniel loved it.
One evening, Sophie asked:
“Are you and Emily together?”
Daniel looked at Emily.
Emily smiled.
“Yes.”
Sophie nodded.
“Finally.”
Daniel laughed.
“Finally?”
“You two were taking forever.”
Emily laughed.
Daniel looked embarrassed.
“You knew?”
Sophie shrugged.
“Everyone knew.”
Daniel shook his head.
“Apparently I was the last person.”
“Even before the accident.”
Emily smiled.
“Especially before the accident.”
Later that night, Daniel and Emily sat on the balcony.
The city lights stretched across the horizon.
Daniel held her hand.
“You know what scares me?”
“What?”
“Forgetting again.”
Emily looked at him.
“You won’t.”
“You can’t know that.”
“No.”
She squeezed his hand.
“But if you do, I’ll remind you.”
Daniel smiled.
“Like before.”
“Exactly.”
He kissed her forehead.
Then he looked toward the city.
His life had almost ended.
His career had almost collapsed.
His memory had disappeared.
But somehow, he had been given another chance.
Not to recover his old life.
To appreciate it.
