Her Husband Left Her to Die—Then the Mafia Boss Made Her His Untouchable Queen

Chapter 7

Victor struck when Luca least expected it.

Sofia disappeared.

The message arrived at midnight.

One life for another.

Luca’s face became emotionless.

Elena saw the change.

“What happened?”

“Sofia.”

“What?”

“They took her.”

Luca immediately gathered his men.

Elena stopped him.

“Wait.”

He looked at her.

“Don’t go alone.”

“You’re staying here.”

“No.”

“Elena.”

“They took Sofia because they want you angry.”

Luca stared.

She continued.

“If you rush in, you give them exactly what they want.”

He slowly nodded.

“Keep going.”

“They know you’ll trade anything for her.”

“So?”

“So don’t give them control.”

Elena looked at the message.

“Who sent it?”

“Victor.”

“Then he expects violence.”

“Yes.”

“What if we give him something else?”

Luca frowned.

“What?”

“Fear.”

They created a false story.

Luca leaked information that he had discovered Victor’s entire financial network.

Victor panicked.

He moved Sofia immediately.

That was the mistake they needed.

Luca’s team tracked the transfer.

Within hours, Sofia was rescued.

Victor escaped.

But before leaving, he sent one final message.

You can’t protect her forever.

Luca knew exactly who he meant.

Elena.

That night, he moved Elena to a secure room.

She was furious.

“I told you I don’t want to be locked away.”

“This isn’t negotiable.”

“Then I’m leaving.”

“You can’t.”

“Watch me.”

She reached for the door.

Luca caught her wrist.

He immediately released it.

“I’m sorry.”

Elena looked at him.

His anger wasn’t toward her.

It was fear.

“You’re scared.”

“Yes.”

She had never heard him admit it.

“Of losing me?”

Luca nodded.

Elena’s expression softened.

“Then don’t turn your fear into a cage.”

He looked at her.

“I don’t know how to do this.”

“Do what?”

“Care about someone without trying to control everything around them.”

She stepped closer.

“Learn.”

He smiled sadly.

“I’ll try.”

Then Elena kissed him.

It was brief.

Uncertain.

But real.

When she pulled away, Luca didn’t move.

Neither did she.

Then he whispered:

“That’s the first thing you’ve done that scares me more than a gun.”

She smiled.

“Good.”
