Her Husband Left Her to Die—Then the Mafia Boss Made Her His Untouchable Queen

Chapter 14

On the tenth anniversary of the crash, Elena returned to the road.

Luca went with her.

The trees had grown.

The old guardrail had been replaced.

There was no sign of the wreck.

Elena stood quietly.

“I thought I’d feel something.”

“You don’t have to.”

“I know.”

She looked at him.

“Do you remember what you said?”

“Yes.”

“What?”

“Someone should have helped you.”

She smiled.

“You did.”

“No.”

Luca shook his head.

“I gave you a coat.”

“And an ambulance.”

“And a room.”

She laughed.

“You’re making my point.”

“What point?”

“You didn’t save me.”

She stepped closer.

“You gave me enough safety to save myself.”

Luca looked at her.

“That sounds like something you would say.”

“Because it’s true.”

She took his hand.

“Daniel tried to make me believe I was disposable.”

Luca’s jaw tightened.

“He was wrong.”

“Yes.”

She smiled.

“I was never disposable.”

“No.”

“You just helped me remember.”

Luca kissed her.

The rain began falling.

Just like that night.

But this time, Elena wasn’t alone on the road.

She wasn’t bleeding.

She wasn’t afraid.

She stood beside the man who had entered her life at the worst possible moment.

Not as her savior.

Not as her owner.

As her partner.
