Billionaire CEO Tested a Delivery Girl—What He Found Changed Everything
Chapter 7
The person watching them was Richard Harrington.
He sat inside a private office across town.
On his desk were photographs of Alexander.
Emily.
And Margaret Carter.
He had been waiting years for this moment.
Richard had helped his father hide the original fraud.
He had continued the scheme after inheriting control of several shell companies.
Alexander’s grandfather had known.
But instead of exposing them, he created the foundation reserve.
Richard had spent decades trying to locate it.
Now Alexander had accidentally found it.
And Emily Carter had found the evidence.
Richard couldn’t allow that.
He called someone.
“Get rid of the evidence.”
The voice on the other end asked:
“And the girl?”
Richard looked at Emily’s photograph.
“Make it look like an accident.”
Meanwhile, Alexander and Emily were preparing to meet federal investigators.
They had assembled enough evidence to expose the laundering network.
But Emily insisted on one more step.
“We need Richard’s direct signature.”
Alexander frowned.
“How do we get it?”
“Test him.”
Alexander smiled.
“You really like tests.”
“Only when they work.”
They created a fake account.
A fake transfer.
A fake opportunity to move fifty million dollars.
The documents were designed to look real.
Then they waited.
Richard took the bait.
He authorized the transfer.
Federal investigators immediately received the evidence.
They had him.
But Richard realized too late that he had been trapped.
He panicked.
That was when Emily received another call.
She answered.
No one spoke.
Then she heard a man’s voice.
“Your grandmother should have stayed out of this.”
Emily froze.
Alexander took the phone.
“Who is this?”
The caller hung up.
Alexander immediately activated security protocols.
“You’re leaving the city.”
Emily shook her head.
“No.”
“Emily.”
“I won’t run.”
“You don’t understand.”
“I understand perfectly.”
She looked at him.
“If I run, they win.”
Alexander stepped closer.
“I’m not asking because you’re weak.”
“Then why?”
“Because I’m terrified of losing you.”
Silence.
Emily stared at him.
He had never said anything like that.
Alexander realized what he’d admitted.
He looked away.
Emily reached for his hand.
“You won’t.”
He looked back.
She smiled.
“Because I’m not going anywhere.”
They kissed.
It was brief.
Uncertain.
But real.
Then the office door burst open.
Security rushed inside.
“Mr. Harrington!”
Alexander turned.
“What happened?”
“There’s been an explosion at the warehouse.”
Emily’s face went pale.
“The evidence?”
“Destroyed.”
Alexander’s jaw tightened.
Richard had moved faster.
But the explosion had caused another problem.
One security officer was injured.
And investigators discovered something inside the ruins.
A metal box.
Burned but intact.
Inside was Margaret Carter’s original complaint.
And beneath it was a photograph.
Alexander looked at it.
His grandfather.
Margaret.
And a third man.
Alexander recognized him immediately.
His father.
But his father was supposed to have known nothing about the scandal.
The photograph proved otherwise.
