Billionaire CEO Tested a Delivery Girl—What He Found Changed Everything

Chapter 6

The next morning, Alexander’s security team discovered a tracking device beneath Emily’s delivery scooter.

It had been installed recently.

Emily stared at it.

“So someone is following me.”

Alexander nodded.

“Yes.”

“Because of your company?”

“Probably.”

She crossed her arms.

“You said you could protect me.”

“I can.”

“Then tell me the truth.”

Alexander looked at her.

“About what?”

“How bad is this?”

He hesitated.

“Very.”

She waited.

“The reserve contains almost four hundred million dollars.”

Emily’s eyes widened.

“And someone wants it.”

“Yes.”

“Who?”

“We think Richard.”

“But you aren’t sure.”

“No.”

Emily sighed.

“Then we keep investigating.”

Alexander smiled.

“You really don’t know when to quit.”

“No.”

“That’s dangerous.”

“So is billionaire CEO testing delivery girls.”

He laughed.

“Fair.”

Their investigation led them to the Northstar office.

It was empty.

But Emily found something in a trash bin.

An old envelope.

Inside was a copy of a bank transfer.

The recipient was a charity.

The amount was $5 million.

Alexander frowned.

“Why would someone steal money and donate it?”

Emily looked closer.

“This isn’t a donation.”

“What?”

“It’s a laundering transaction.”

She explained that the charity had been created recently.

The money entered as a donation.

Then it was transferred to another company.

Then another.

Finally, it returned to an account connected to Harrington Global.

Someone had built an elaborate laundering network.

But why?

Alexander realized something.

“They aren’t stealing the money.”

Emily looked at him.

“What?”

“They’re moving it.”

“Why?”

“To create fake losses.”

She understood.

“Someone wants the company to look insolvent.”

Alexander nodded.

“And when the stock collapses…”

“Someone buys it cheaply.”

“Exactly.”

They had uncovered the plan.

Richard wasn’t trying to steal four hundred million dollars.

He wanted to destroy Harrington Global’s value.

Then acquire it.

Alexander called his attorney.

Within hours, federal investigators were quietly informed.

But before they could act, something happened.

Alexander received a message.

Stop digging.

Then another.

You don’t know what happened to Margaret Carter.

Alexander stared at the screen.

He showed Emily.

Her face went pale.

“My grandmother?”

“Maybe they’re bluffing.”

Emily shook her head.

“No.”

“What?”

“My grandmother didn’t die naturally.”

Alexander looked at her.

“What are you saying?”

Emily’s voice trembled.

“She was poisoned.”

Alexander froze.

“Why didn’t you tell me?”

“Because I never knew.”

She explained that the doctors had ruled her grandmother’s death a heart attack.

But recently, Emily had found a letter from an old physician suggesting that the symptoms were unusual.

Alexander’s face hardened.

“Then we reopen everything.”

Emily nodded.

That evening, they sat together in his office.

Neither spoke for a long time.

Finally, Emily said:

“My grandmother spent her life trying to protect people.”

Alexander looked at her.

“She succeeded.”

“How?”

“She protected you.”

Emily’s eyes filled with tears.

Alexander reached across the table.

She took his hand.

Neither pulled away.

For a moment, the investigation disappeared.

The billionaire CEO and the delivery girl simply sat together.

Two people who had started as strangers.

Two people who had begun to trust each other.

Then Alexander whispered:

“I’m glad I tested you.”

Emily smiled.

“You might be the first billionaire I’ve met who admits he was wrong.”

“I wasn’t wrong.”

“What?”

“I was right.”

She laughed.

He smiled.

And neither noticed the security camera in the hallway.

Someone else was watching them.
