The Maid’s Toddler Copied the Mafia Boss’s Angry Face—His Reaction Made Everyone Laugh!

Chapter 10

The winter after the foundation opened was the first peaceful winter any of us had known.

Snow covered the city.

The foundation was busy.

Children came for food, lessons, medical help.

Vincent worked from a small office.

No weapons.

No threats.

Just paperwork.

He hated paperwork.

One morning, I brought him coffee.

“You look miserable.”

“I’ve been reading budgets for three hours.”

“That’s your punishment for becoming legitimate.”

He smiled.

“Worth it.”

Leo burst into the office wearing a tiny suit.

“Boss!”

Vincent looked up.

“What are you doing?”

Leo crossed his arms.

Vincent crossed his.

Leo frowned.

Vincent frowned.

I laughed.

“You’ve created a monster.”

Vincent shook his head.

“I blame genetics.”

Daniel walked in.

“You blame me?”

Vincent pointed.

“Your son.”

Daniel smiled.

“Fair.”

The three men looked at each other.

Daniel had accepted that Vincent was part of Leo’s life.

Not as a replacement father.

Not as someone with a claim.

As family.

One afternoon, we received a letter.

From the court.

The trust was officially transferred.

The foundation now controlled the legal assets.

The old Blackwood criminal network was dissolved.

All remaining legitimate businesses were independent.

Vincent’s name was no longer attached to the criminal organization.

The case was over.

I cried.

Vincent hugged me.

Daniel hugged both of us.

Leo looked confused.

“Why crying?”

I smiled.

“Happy.”

Leo nodded.

“Happy boss.”

Vincent laughed.

“Apparently that’s me.”

That evening, after the children went to sleep, Vincent and I sat by the fireplace.

He looked tired.

But peaceful.

“Do you regret it?”

“What?”

Giving everything up.

He stared at the fire.

“I regret who I was.”

He looked at me.

“Not what I gave up.”

“You lost billions.”

“I gained my life.”

I smiled.

“That’s worth more.”

He reached for my hand.

“I learned something from your son.”

“What?”

“An angry face isn’t strength.”

I laughed.

“Tell me more.”

“Being feared is easy.”

“Being trusted is difficult.”

“Being loved is harder.”

He squeezed my hand.

“And being worthy of love is the hardest part.”

I looked at him.

“You’re doing okay.”

He smiled.

“Good.”

Then he stood.

“I have something.”

“What?”

He went into another room.

When he returned, he held a small wooden box.

I recognized it.

“The first key.”

He handed it to me.

Inside was the original photo of Vincent and Daniel.

Two young men.

Before everything went wrong.

Vincent looked at it.

“He was a good man.”

“He was.”

“I wish he had seen this.”

I nodded.

“The family.”

Vincent smiled.

“He would have.”

Then he looked at me.

“Maria?”

“Yes?”

“I don’t want you working as my maid anymore.”

I stared.

“What?”

“I want you to run the foundation’s family program.”

“That is a real job.”

“Yes.”

“I’d get paid?”

“Yes.”

“Good.”

He smiled.

“You’re negotiating.”

“Absolutely.”

I laughed.

He leaned closer.

“I also want something else.”

“What?”

“A chance.”

“For what?”

He looked into my eyes.

“For a life with you.”

My heart stopped.

“Vincent…”

“I know this is complicated.”

“Very.”

“I know I have a past.”

“So do I.”

“I know you’re the mother of Daniel’s child.”

“Yes.”

“But I also know that when I imagine my future…”

He paused.

“You’re in it.”

I couldn’t speak.

Then I kissed him.

It was quiet.

Not dramatic.

But it changed everything.

The next morning, Leo saw us holding hands.

He smiled.

Then made his angry face.

Vincent copied it.

Leo laughed.

The mansion had become a home.
