The Mafia Boss Walked In as His Supervisor Whipped the Shy Employee—Then the Entire Office Froze!
Chapter 3
The office remained silent after Clara followed Matteo into the hallway.
Dawson stood beside his desk.
Nobody dared speak.
The moment the door closed behind Clara, Dawson turned toward the staff.
“This isn’t finished.”
No one answered.
He looked at them one by one.
“You didn’t see anything.”
A young clerk lowered his eyes.
Dawson smiled.
“Good.”
But someone had seen everything.
Her name was Nina.
She worked two desks away from Clara.
She had noticed Dawson’s behavior for months.
The threats.
The humiliations.
The unpaid overtime.
The missing payroll hours.
The strange deductions from Clara’s salary.
Nina had wanted to help.
She had never known how.
Now, watching Dawson tremble after Matteo Moretti entered, she realized something.
The man who had seemed untouchable was suddenly afraid.
Meanwhile, Clara walked beside Matteo through the warehouse.
She expected questions.
Instead, he asked:
“How long?”
Clara looked confused.
“How long what?”
“Has he been doing this?”
She said nothing.
Matteo stopped.
“Clara.”
Her name sounded strange in his voice.
“You know my name?”
“I know more than your name.”
She stared at him.
“How?”
Matteo looked toward the loading yard.
“Because I’ve been watching this company.”
“Why?”
He didn’t answer.
Instead, he asked another question.
“Did Dawson ever ask you to sign documents you didn’t understand?”
Clara’s stomach tightened.
“Yes.”
“How many?”
“I don’t know.”
“What kind?”
“Shipping reports. Expense forms. Sometimes inventory corrections.”
Matteo’s expression hardened.
“Did you sign them?”
“Sometimes.”
“Why?”
“He said I would lose my job.”
Matteo looked away.
For the first time, Clara noticed something behind his anger.
Concern.
Not pity.
Something deeper.
“You should have told someone.”
Clara gave a small, humorless smile.
“Who?”
Matteo had no answer.
Because she was right.
The company had built a system where everyone had someone above them.
And Dawson had learned how to hide behind it.
Matteo walked toward a private office.
Before opening the door, he turned.
“From today onward, you report directly to me.”
Clara’s eyes widened.
“No.”
Matteo paused.
“No?”
“I don’t want special treatment.”
“This isn’t special treatment.”
“It will look like it.”
“Let them look.”
Clara shook her head.
“I just want to work.”
Matteo studied her.
Then he nodded.
“Fine.”
He opened the door.
“You’ll work.”
She stepped inside.
“But nobody will hurt you for doing it.”
