The Mafia Boss Walked In as His Supervisor Whipped the Shy Employee—Then the Entire Office Froze!
Chapter 11
Cole’s disappearance triggered chaos.
His offices were empty.
His house had been abandoned.
His bank accounts had been drained.
Someone had helped him escape.
Matteo suspected the person was inside the company.
The search lasted days.
Then Clara found something.
A shipment code hidden inside her father’s handwriting.
She recognized the pattern.
It pointed to an old warehouse outside the city.
Matteo wanted to go alone.
Clara refused.
“You’re not leaving me behind.”
“This isn’t a discussion.”
“It is.”
He stared at her.
She stared back.
Finally, Matteo sighed.
“Stay behind me.”
They arrived just before midnight.
The warehouse was dark.
Inside, they found boxes of stolen goods.
Documents.
Photographs.
And a ledger.
Clara picked it up.
Her father’s handwriting appeared on the first page.
She nearly collapsed.
“He finished it.”
Matteo took the ledger.
Every transaction was there.
Every payment.
Every fake shipment.
Every bribe.
Every person involved.
At the bottom of the final page was one name.
Adrian Cole.
But there was another name beneath it.
Matteo read it.
His expression changed.
Clara saw.
“Who?”
Matteo didn’t answer.
She looked at the page.
The second name belonged to someone she knew.
Someone who had been helping them.
Someone who had seemed trustworthy.
Nina.
Clara’s face went pale.
“No.”
A voice came from behind them.
“I’m sorry.”
Nina stepped into the doorway.
Clara stared.
“Nina?”
Tears ran down Nina’s face.
“I didn’t want this.”
Matteo’s men raised their weapons.
Matteo lifted a hand.
“Lower them.”
Nina shook her head.
“They have my brother.”
“Who?”
“Cole.”
“Where?”
“I don’t know.”
“Then why are you here?”
Nina looked at Clara.
“Because I was told to bring you.”
Clara’s heart pounded.
“Why me?”
Nina whispered:
“Because your father didn’t hide the ledger from Cole.”
She pointed at Clara.
“He hid it for you.”
A sound came from outside.
Cars.
Several of them.
Matteo looked toward the windows.
“We’ve been surrounded.”
Nina began crying.
“I told you I was sorry.”
Matteo turned toward Clara.
“Stay behind me.”
The warehouse doors opened.
Adrian Cole stepped inside.
He wasn’t alone.
And in his hand was the wooden box that had disappeared from Clara’s apartment.
