The Mafia Boss Walked In as His Supervisor Whipped the Shy Employee—Then the Entire Office Froze!

Chapter 1

Why had the entire office gone silent before the first crack of the whip even finished echoing?

The question never left Clara Bennett’s mind.

She stood beside a steel filing cabinet with both hands pressed against her skirt, trying not to tremble.

The warehouse office smelled of dust, printer ink, and cold coffee. Rain streaked the tall windows overlooking the loading yard. Outside, trucks rolled through the gates beneath the gray afternoon sky.

Inside, nobody moved.

Mr. Dawson held the leather whip in one hand.

Clara stared at the floor.

“You made another mistake,” Dawson said.

Her throat tightened.

“I—I can correct it.”

“You said that yesterday.”

“I know.”

“And the day before.”

“I know.”

Dawson stepped closer.

The other employees looked away.

Everyone knew what happened when Dawson became angry.

He was the supervisor of the shipping division, and because the company belonged to people nobody wanted to anger, he had convinced himself that the rules did not apply to him.

Clara was the easiest target.

She was quiet.

She never argued.

She arrived before everyone else, stayed late, and apologized even when someone else had made the mistake.

Dawson raised the whip.

Clara closed her eyes.

The crack never came.

Instead, the office doors slammed open.

A man entered.

He wore a black coat darkened by rain, his hair slicked back, his expression unreadable.

Two men followed him.

Every employee recognized him.

Matteo Moretti.

The man who owned half the warehouses along the river.

The man whose name was spoken carefully.

The man whose organization controlled the shipping routes no legitimate businessman wanted to discuss.

The mafia boss.

Matteo stopped just inside the doorway.

His eyes moved from Dawson…

to the whip…

to Clara.

Nobody breathed.

Dawson slowly lowered his arm.

“Mr. Moretti,” he whispered.

Matteo said nothing.

He walked forward.

One step.

Then another.

His shoes clicked against the concrete floor.

Clara finally looked up.

She had expected anger.

Instead, she saw something colder.

Recognition.

Matteo knew her.

And Clara suddenly understood that the reason the most feared man in the city had walked into this miserable office wasn’t business.

He had come looking for her.
