The Mafia Boss Walked In as His Supervisor Whipped the Shy Employee—Then the Entire Office Froze!
Chapter 2
Matteo Moretti had been expected at the warehouse that morning.
Everyone knew it.
The accounting department had spent three days preparing reports.
The managers had polished their shoes.
The security guards had been warned.
But nobody expected him to arrive while Dawson was holding a whip.
Matteo stopped several feet away.
“Put it down.”
Dawson swallowed.
“Sir, this is an internal disciplinary matter.”
Matteo’s eyes didn’t move from the whip.
“I said put it down.”
Dawson lowered it.
Slowly.
Clara remained against the cabinet.
She wanted to disappear.
The attention made her skin burn.
Matteo turned toward her.
“Are you hurt?”
Clara shook her head.
“No.”
“Look at me.”
She hesitated.
Then raised her eyes.
Matteo’s expression changed slightly.
“You’re lying.”
A murmur moved through the office.
Dawson immediately stepped forward.
“She made repeated clerical errors. I was correcting—”
Matteo raised one hand.
Dawson stopped speaking.
“Who gave you permission to touch an employee?”
Dawson looked confused.
“I’m her supervisor.”
“That wasn’t my question.”
Silence.
Matteo took the whip from his hand.
Dawson didn’t resist.
Matteo examined it for a moment, then placed it on the desk.
“I don’t care how many mistakes she made.”
His voice remained calm.
“No employee in my company will be beaten.”
Dawson’s face paled.
“Your company?”
Matteo looked at him.
“You didn’t know?”
Dawson’s mouth opened.
Nothing came out.
The warehouse had technically belonged to a holding company.
Most employees didn’t know the final ownership structure.
Dawson suddenly understood why Matteo had access to everything.
He wasn’t a visitor.
He was the owner.
Clara’s heart pounded.
She had known the company was connected to Moretti businesses.
She had never imagined the connection went this far.
Matteo looked back at her.
“Come with me.”
Clara froze.
“Sir?”
“You heard me.”
“I—I still have work.”
“You’ve been beaten at work.”
Her cheeks flushed.
“It wasn’t—”
Matteo’s gaze sharpened.
“Don’t protect him.”
Clara lowered her eyes.
That sentence frightened her more than anger would have.
Because somehow, Matteo had understood her immediately.
She always protected other people.
Even people who hurt her.
And Matteo Moretti had noticed.
