The Mafia Boss Brought His Secretary as His Fake Date—Then Got Jealous When Every Man Wanted Her

Chapter 11

Adrian turned slowly.

Damien pointed the weapon directly at Elena.

“Drop yours.”

Adrian lowered his gun.

“Take me instead.”

Damien laughed.

“That’s exactly what I expected.”

Elena whispered,

“Adrian, don’t.”

Damien smiled.

“This is beautiful.”

He looked between them.

“You really do love her.”

Adrian’s jaw tightened.

“That should scare you.”

Damien shook his head.

“It does.”

Then he pulled the trigger.

Adrian moved.

The bullet struck his shoulder.

Elena screamed.

He stumbled but stayed standing.

“Run.”

“No!”

“Run, Elena!”

She refused.

Damien approached.

“You should have listened.”

Adrian raised his gun with his injured arm.

He fired.

Damien ducked.

One of Adrian’s men appeared from behind the trees and shot the weapon from Damien’s hand.

Within seconds, he was surrounded.

But Damien was smiling.

“You think you’ve won?”

Adrian held his shoulder.

“It’s over.”

“No.”

Damien looked at Elena.

“Tell her.”

Adrian froze.

“Tell her what?”

Damien laughed.

“Tell her about the first time you met.”

Elena looked at Adrian.

“What is he talking about?”

Adrian said nothing.

Her heart sank.

“You knew me before you hired me.”

“Yes.”

“For how long?”

“Before you knew me.”

“How?”

He lowered his eyes.

“Your father asked me to watch over you.”

Elena stared.

“Watch over me?”

“I was twenty-four.”

“And I was?”

“Twelve.”

She stepped back.

“You knew where I was growing up.”

“Yes.”

“You watched me?”

“To keep you safe.”

She shook her head.

“You should have told me.”

“I know.”

“Anything else?”

Adrian hesitated.

That hesitation hurt more than words.

“Tell me.”

“I knew you were applying for the secretary position.”

“And you hired me because of my qualifications?”

“Yes.”

“But?”

“Because I wanted you close enough to protect.”

She looked away.

For the first time since falling in love with him, Elena felt betrayed.

Not because he had lied.

Because the beginning of their relationship had been built on a secret she never consented to.

Adrian saw the pain in her eyes.

“I never touched your life beyond what was necessary.”

“You decided what was necessary.”

“I was trying to protect you.”

“I know.”

She wiped away her tears.

“But protection isn’t the same as trust.”

He had no answer.

Damien laughed.

“There it is.”

Adrian turned toward him.

“You won’t use this moment to win.”

“I already have.”

Suddenly sirens filled the cemetery.

Police arrived.

But Adrian’s men had already secured the area.

Damien was arrested.

Before leaving, he looked at Elena.

“Ask your mother who really ordered your father’s disappearance.”

Elena froze.

“What?”

Damien smiled.

“It’s not who you think.”

Then he was taken away.

The cemetery became quiet again.

Adrian approached Elena.

She stepped back.

He stopped immediately.

“I understand.”

“What?”

“You need space.”

She nodded.

“For the first time, you’re right.”

He swallowed.

“I’ll give it to you.”

He turned.

“Adrian.”

He stopped.

“I still love you.”

He looked back.

“But I need to know who you are without all the secrets.”

His eyes were full of emotion.

“I’ll wait.”

And for the first time, the most powerful man in the city walked away from the woman he loved without trying to control what happened next.
