The Mafia Boss Brought His Secretary as His Fake Date—Then Got Jealous When Every Man Wanted Her

Chapter 10

Adrian’s expression became unreadable.

“What did you say?”

Damien smiled.

“Your father wasn’t the only one keeping secrets.”

Elena looked at him.

“What are you talking about?”

Damien held up a small envelope.

“Your father made a deal.”

“With whom?”

“With mine.”

Adrian stepped forward.

“Liar.”

Damien laughed.

“Your father wanted power. Elena’s father wanted his family alive. They made an arrangement.”

Elena shook her head.

“My father would never.”

“You barely knew him.”

The words hurt.

Damien continued.

“Your father agreed to help my family expose Adrian’s father, but he demanded protection for you.”

Adrian looked at Elena’s mother.

She was standing behind them.

Her face was pale.

“Is it true?”

She nodded.

“But there was more.”

Adrian’s voice was cold.

“What?”

“Elena’s father kept a copy of the ledger.”

Damien lifted the envelope.

“But he didn’t hide it somewhere.”

He looked at Elena.

“He gave it to her.”

She touched her pendant.

“The key.”

Damien smiled.

“Yes.”

A gunshot rang out.

The windows shattered.

Chaos erupted.

Adrian pushed Elena behind a pillar.

His men returned fire.

Damien disappeared into the darkness.

“Elena!”

Adrian grabbed her hand.

They ran through a side hallway.

“You knew?”

“No.”

“My mother knew.”

“Yes.”

She looked at him.

“Are you angry?”

“At her? Yes.”

“At me?”

“Never.”

He pulled her into a storage room.

The door slammed shut.

“Listen to me.”

Elena looked into his eyes.

“Whatever your father did, I won’t blame you for it.”

“Adrian…”

“I spent years believing I had to carry his sins.”

He touched her face.

“But I don’t.”

She nodded.

Then Elena suddenly remembered something.

“The pendant.”

“What about it?”

“My father told me something when I was little.”

“What?”

“He said if I ever lost everything, I should go to the place where I felt safest.”

Adrian frowned.

“Where?”

She looked at him.

“Your house.”

He stared.

“Why?”

“I don’t know.”

She removed the pendant.

There was a tiny seam along its edge.

Adrian took out a pocketknife and opened it carefully.

Inside was a miniature key.

And beneath the key was a strip of paper.

Elena unfolded it.

Only five words were written.

The truth sleeps beneath black stone.

Adrian thought for a moment.

“Black stone.”

His eyes widened.

“My father’s grave.”

Elena looked at him.

“Why would it be there?”

“Because the grave is made from black granite.”

They left the storage room through another corridor.

When they reached the courtyard, Damien was gone.

But one of his men had been captured.

Adrian grabbed him.

“Where is Cross?”

The man smiled.

“You’re too late.”

“For what?”

“The grave.”

Adrian’s blood ran cold.

Elena understood.

“Damien is going to destroy the ledger.”

They raced to the cemetery.

When they arrived, flames were already rising.

Adrian ran toward the grave.

Elena followed.

They found a small metal box beneath the black granite.

Adrian pulled it free.

Inside were documents.

Photographs.

Bank records.

And a handwritten letter from Elena’s father.

She opened it.

Her father had written that Adrian’s father had eventually regretted everything.

He had planned to confess.

But Damien’s father had discovered the betrayal and ordered both men eliminated.

The ledger could expose him.

And there was one final line.

Adrian must never become the man his father was.

Elena looked at Adrian.

He read the sentence.

His eyes filled with pain.

Then a voice came from behind them.

“Unfortunately, he already has.”

Damien stood in the shadows.

Gun raised.
