The exchange took place at an abandoned warehouse near the river.
Daniel arrived carrying a briefcase.
Victoria watched from a nearby surveillance vehicle.
Three men appeared.
Then a fourth.
He stepped into the light.
Daniel recognized him.
The company’s head of security.
Marcus Hall.
Marcus smiled.
“You always were smarter than you looked.”
Daniel kept his voice calm.
“You tried to take my daughter.”
“I needed the trust.”
“Why?”
Marcus laughed.
“Because your wife was hiding the truth.”
Daniel stared.
“My wife is dead.”
“Her sister.”
“Rachel?”
Marcus nodded.
“She knew the trust existed.”
“Then why didn’t she take it?”
“Because she wanted to keep her daughter safe.”
Daniel tightened his grip on the briefcase.
“And you?”
“I want what the trust contains.”
Police units were already moving.
Then Marcus made his mistake.
He pulled out his phone.
A photograph of Lily appeared.
Daniel’s face went cold.
“You’ve been watching her.”
Marcus smiled.
“Of course.”
The police moved.
Sirens exploded around the warehouse.
The men panicked.
Marcus grabbed Daniel.
A struggle followed.
Then Victoria stepped from behind the vehicle.
“Drop the weapon.”
Marcus froze.
He looked at her.
“Victoria.”
She stared at him.
“You picked the wrong family.”
Marcus surrendered.
The kidnapping operation collapsed.
