Employees were ordered to stay inside.
The police arrived.
Victoria came downstairs personally.
She looked at Daniel.
Then Lily.
“Are you hurt?”
Daniel shook his head.
“No.”
Victoria crouched beside Lily.
“Are you okay?”
Lily nodded.
Victoria looked relieved.
Then confused.
“Why did they target her?”
Daniel answered.
“They thought she was your daughter.”
Victoria stared.
“I don’t have a daughter.”
Daniel looked at her.
“I know.”
Security footage was pulled immediately.
The black SUV appeared near the loading entrance.
The driver wore a Sterling Technologies security uniform.
But the security director insisted no such vehicle had been assigned.
Victoria’s expression hardened.
“Someone inside the company.”
The police began reviewing employee records.
Daniel stood beside Lily.
She clung to his jacket.
Victoria noticed.
“Thank you.”

“Anyone would have done it.”

“No.”

“We need to move you to a secure location.”
Victoria nodded.
Then she looked at Daniel.
“You and your daughter come with me.”

“I don’t think that’s necessary.”
“Someone just tried to take your child because they thought she belonged to me.”
Victoria’s voice became firm.
“Until we know why, you’re coming.”
Daniel agreed.
They moved to Victoria’s private residence.
For the first time, Daniel saw how different her life was.
Glass walls.
Security gates.
A private garden.
Employees who moved quietly through the house.
Lily stared.
“Wow.”
Victoria smiled.
“It’s not that impressive.”
Daniel almost laughed.
“To a six-year-old, it is.”
Lily looked at Victoria.
“Do you have toys?”
Victoria froze.
She hadn’t expected the question.
“No.”
Lily frowned.
“That’s sad.”
Daniel covered a smile.
