She Thought Her Husband Was Just a Hardworking Dad — Until She Discovered the Fortune He Had Hidden From Her
Chapter 9
Nathan and Emma took their first real vacation together.
Not a yacht.
Not a private island.
A small cabin near a lake.
Emma laughed when she saw it.
“This is your idea of a vacation?”
Nathan smiled.
“My favorite places are the ones nobody cares about.”
They spent the morning hiking.
The afternoon fishing.
At night, they cooked together.
There were no assistants.
No phones.
No newspapers.
No lawyers.
Just the two of them.
Emma sat beside the fire.
“Can I ask you something?”
“Anything.”
“If you could go back, would you tell me immediately?”
Nathan thought.
“Yes.”
“Even if you knew I might leave?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“Because love without truth isn’t fair.”
Emma nodded.
“I wish you’d learned that earlier.”
“So do I.”
She leaned against him.
“I’m still scared.”
“Of what?”
“That one day I’ll wake up and all of this will disappear.”
Nathan looked at her.
“I can’t promise you nothing will ever change.”
She nodded.
“But I can promise that you won’t face change alone.”
Emma smiled.
“That’s enough.”
He kissed her.
And for the first time, the secret wasn’t between them anymore.
They knew everything.
And they were still together.
