She Thought Her Husband Was Just a Hardworking Dad — Until She Discovered the Fortune He Had Hidden From Her
Chapter 11
One afternoon, Lily asked Emma a question.
“Is Dad really rich?”
Emma laughed.
“Yes.”
“How rich?”
“Very.”
“Like movie rich?”
“More.”
Lily thought about it.
“Can we buy a castle?”
Emma laughed.
“No.”
“Why?”
“Because we don’t need one.”
Nathan walked into the room.
“I’d like a castle.”
Emma looked at him.
“You already have one.”
“I do?”
She pointed toward the living room.
“The kids destroyed it with blankets.”
Nathan looked.
A pile of pillows had become a fort.
He smiled.
“You’re right.”
Lily laughed.
Caleb joined them.
The children had started calling Nathan’s fortune “the secret money.”
Emma smiled whenever they did.
She wanted them to understand that wealth was a tool.
Not an identity.
Nathan agreed.
They taught the children about saving.
Giving.
Working.
Respecting people.
The mansion could wait.
The private jets could wait.
The important thing was making sure the children didn’t become entitled.
One evening, Nathan told Emma:
“I was afraid my children would grow up thinking money made them better.”
“They won’t.”
“How do you know?”
She pointed toward the kitchen.
“They’re fighting over who has to wash dishes.”
Nathan smiled.
“Fair.”
